This is the first movie I have had the desire to walk out before the final credits.<br><br>The cheese is heavier in this celluloid septic waste than a fondue pot. Your selection of the cheesiest scenes are as far and wide as the liberties taken with logic and sensibility in a script which better resembles a roll of Charmin.<br><br>Take your pick of the two cheesiest scenes:<br><br>Bill Pullman's insipid attempt to inspire the troops in the final battel vs. the alien menace.<br><br>The dog leaping in the tunnel door just in the nick of time to escape the inferno which nearly engulfs Will Smith's beloved wife and child.<br><br>Logic also suffers a cruel and unusual punishment in this cinematic swill. Two mere examples of the putrid writing is the improbability of Jeff Goldblum and Judd Hirsch escaping NYC with NO traffic hassles AND being able to drive to Washington DC just in time to save the President and Jeff Goldblum's ability to destroy an entire alien civilization with a Macintosh computer that wasn't even able to run the simplest of software systems.<br><br>The best reason to watch this movie is to see stuff blow up and to have a good laugh. Alas, all this movie usually gives me is indigestion...... Was this review helpful? Films of this nature are made for one reason only... to show you how incredible the special effects are.<br><br>So if you can watch the roughly 20 minutes of spectacular visual stimulation and stomach the other one hour and 40 minutes of poor script and below average acting, this is the movie for you. Even actors that I like, such as Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith, and Vivica Fox couldn't save this. <br><br>Bring back the first lady. She was the only credible character of the film. It starts out when on a sumnmer day giant space ships that cover whole cities arrive and everyone is in chaos. The president(Bill Pullman) dosen't know what to do. In New York a cable repairman(Jeff Goldblum) stumbles onto a pattern while trying to fix the cable inteference that is caused by the space ships. Then we are introduced to Captin Steven Hiller(Will Smith) Is called to the army base while on vacation. The president can only hope that the aliens don't become hostile, but they are! they send down a "laser bomb" that demolishes a whole city. The suvivors have to rebel and finish off the aliens. This movie is great in every way possible! If you don't believe me than rent it I gurantee you will love it! Was this review helpful? This film is a theatrical masterpiece and offers hours upon hours of delight. Independence Day is the classic story about an alien invasion that terrorizes all in their path. It is now up to individuals like Marine Corps Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith), President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman), and David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) to put an end to the chaos that has arisen. ID4 is unlike other lenghty films in that it is compelling at all times rather than having you wait for the exciting parts. With a talented cast, well-composed soundtrack, and amazing special effects, this movie should prove to be a major blockbuster for all times. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful Independence Day 1996 versonPosted: 1/3/2003A review of Independence Day by toni7349 YES,I cant say enough for this movie it was without a doubt the BEST picture i ever seen.And believe me i am not that big on space movies but you are there and you almost believe it did happened,MAYBE IT HAS HUH?It had lots of drama and plenty of auction and even and some cute comedy thrown in by that cutie himselve,Will Smith!Lots of GREAT Special Effects,Sorround Sounds(are wonderful)Actors,Directors,The sets,Lighting,and right down to the last person who probablly wasn't notice much was great.Everyone fit this bill perfectly.So if you want to CLAP your HANDS and STOMP your FEET...... GET YOURSELVES up off your SEATS then by all means go rent it.You sure won't be disappointed especially if you have a good size T.V and Surrond Sounds.Astala~ Was this review helpful?
