Although on the outside it may seem based on Stephen King's or H.P.Lovecraft's ideas, it is utterly original and beautifully cast and shot! The idea of a book that can change and drive mankind insane is incredible (It reminds us of Robert W.Chambers' King in Yellow taken to the extreme) and it is so superbly developed! Great performance by Sam Neill, a great actor unfortunately underrated, and actors whose mere presence magnetize attention (Charlton Heston, Jurgen Prochnow, the great character actor David Warner). It's a flashback story as seen from the main character locked in a lunatic asylum and we perceive the changes going on in the outside world. No happy ending: mankind is doomed to extinction. A down-to-earth, matter-of-fact insurance investigator disintegrating before your eyes! Are we pawns or is it a self-inflicted destiny? Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-1 of 1 Per Page | ||
