The younger McCauley is really showing some promise. You might also like the Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys, My Own Private Idaho or Tart if you like this film. Was this review helpful? The acting is outstanding, the cast is amazingly powerful, the screenplay is articulatley written, and among all of that, the soundtrack is also unbelieveable. The first time I saw this movie I was left with a mixture of emotions. It really gets you thinking about life...not only Igby's, but your own and how you can relate to him. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is mature enough to deal with such a deep, dramatic, dark film. I bought the DVD days after I rented it as well as the soundtrack. It's absolutely amazing. And is it just me, or is this actually the way many American kids grow up? Maybe exaggerated slightly, but only slightly. Was this review helpful? Kiern Culkin is just amazing with a phenomenal cast to back him up. This was only at a local theatre for three days and I saw the last show on the third day and am so glad I did. This movie is so good its intimidating, leaving you depressed and in deep thought. I cannot wait to see it again. Was this review helpful? Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 2/6/2003A review of Igby Goes Down by carrillomj I wanted more story line. The movie was a superb showcase of young talent - Kiern Culkin is much more gifted than I had anticipated. Everyone was extremely believable. There was a resonnance of Holden Caulfield throuhout the entire flick, but it wasn't overwhelming. Burr Steers creates such a wonderful mood with the setting and cinematography. This project sends a message - at times it is vague and champions a genre of the eccentric characters you find in books such as The Catcher in the Rye, American Psycho, and the film Reversal of Fortune. I did yearn for more story line - I wanted this film to continue. Was this review helpful? I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE, SAW IT A MONTH AGO, AND I'M STILL TALKING ABOUT IT! IT IS DEFINITELY AN R RATED FILM, I DO NOT SUGGEST THIS FOR CHILDREN AT ALL. THEY WILL NOT UNDERSTAND IT ANYWAY. GO, SEE, ENJOY! Was this review helpful? Overall, It was a good movie, but they could have developed the mother a little bit more. We don't get that many reasons to hate her (other that the obvious), and we seem to have more and more reasons to hate Igby. With an ending like that, you get this mixed emotion, that we should applaud Igby for moving on, or hate him (not sure if this emotion is intentional) Was this review helpful? It was funny and realistic, which is more than I can say about most movies out there. I think almost everyone will relate to something in this film at some point. And the casting was truly amazing. Very believable. They without a doubt cast the right actors for these roles. I would definitely see this movie again. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-13 of 13 Per Page | ||
