This has one of the best casts and is wonderfully done! Absolutley worth your time! Go see it! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/2/2006A review of I Heart Huckabees by EmpoweredSiggy This is a very thought provoking film. Even the title is existential in nature. It is definitely one that you must see over and over. And, if you like movies that make you think, youll love to watch it over and over and over. This is also a prime example of those existential crises we all have from time to time when we hopefully eventually realize that we need not waste so much energy freaking out after all--existential crisis I think theyre messed up, but they think Im messed up, so I must really be messed up. It is an excellent demonstration of what happens when incomprehensible ideas attach themselves to our mind and we cant let go until we tear down walls that formerly protected us. It is also a good example of the negative reactions of others who refuse to accept new ideas. This movie can make many of us uncomfortable unless were open to the abstract so uncomfortable new ideas can literally make us sick to our stomachs--there comes a day when it is more painful to remain in the bud than it is to blossom. And, hopefully, from this movie, we will learn that all we need is to be open to those who are willing to guide and support us through our changes. So, if you leave scratching your head after seeing it once, see it again and again because eventually you will no longer scratch your head. Was this review helpful? Albert Markovski hires two existential detectives to help him examine his life, including his battles with a nasty corporate exec and his relationship with his girlfriend. The Movie is great I had saw it on TV then i bought it. The one thing i hated about the movie is that it was a comedy I did not laugh once i have know idea why it was a comedy if you look for it in the store you will find it under comedy. It is so far from funny but some how i like it a lot.
I heart Huckabees is good-Hum red and silly. It is a whole bunch of things fused together. I truly wish this was a bigger hit in the box office it is great. Was this review helpful? If youre not into weird-make you think typ of black comedies you wont like it, but I thought it was great. Aside of Jason Schwartzman - who did a good job, but Im not a big fan of - I dont have anything bad to say about it at all. Mark Wahlberg, Dustin Hoffman, and Lily Tomlin were absolutely perfect for their roles as well. 5 stars! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/31/2005A review of I Heart Huckabees by Drac87 Folks, I rented this movie just this weekend as I didn't want to pay to see it in the theater and I'm glad I didn't. This was a TERRIBLE movie, and I cut it off halway through the thing. I'm pretty open-minded guy, and I'm college educated, but I have never seen such utter waste as this film was. Not even my favorites like Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Lily Tomlin, or Dustin Hoffman could save this crap!! It has absolutely NOTHING going for it. NOTHING. If you haven't see this and your contemplating it, then please don't, because I'll slap you if you do. It's really that bad, folks, and I hate to even give it one star! Was this review helpful? GOOD TIME, Good cast. Was this review helpful? This movie was Amazing!! The dialogue was funny yet at the same time was smart and really made you think about everything. How it all came together at the end was great. Its the type of movie that at the end you feel unbelivably happy and lighthearted. If your one of those people who like simple plots, explosions and the type of humour where someone is talking out of their ass, then don't see this movie, you won't get it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 3/16/2005A review of I Heart Huckabees by Chrisgiraffe When a director writes a scene involving J.Schwartzman literally smearing an older French woman entirely in mud then having sex with her in a swamp they can't expect the film to have a mass appeal. Such unusual scenes and peppering the film with hard expletives doesn't weaken Huckabees so much as the director's telling us the story through incessent headspinning dialogue rather than showing us the story. Huckabees revolves around an existential arguement: Are we all "connected" to one another or are we alone? The director hammers out that "non-connected" equals miserable and no reason for living, where as "connected" equals a party too good to be acceptable (kind of like "the Matrix" where people's brains 'rejected' a simulated world with no suffering and cruelty). After you've bought the ticket you have no choice but to accept this single point of view since the director presents no others (a shame, really).
Huckabees isn't so much a movie as a philosophical diatribe-dialogue-debate of sorts with plot and standard character development on the back burner. There are funny parts but these are more of a side-effect of figurative existential arguements taken literally than part of a coherent comedy. I was surprised such a talented cast (of which all do a terrific job) took this strange project on. While I see this movie becoming a cult favorite among Philosophic buffs (perhaps fodder for a thesis somewhere) I think it fails as a vehicle of motion picture entertainment. Was this review helpful? Yeah, it does drag on a little at the end, but the premise is so original, the script is witty, the acting is beautiful. If you have no idea what the word existentialism means or you don't have a quirky sense of humor, you probably won't like this film. For everyone else, you should see it. Was this review helpful? Yes, it is not for everyone. Simpleminded ones need to stay away from it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 5 users found this helpful Posted: 11/6/2004A review of I Heart Huckabees by Stõrm™ The critics rating for this movie is decieving. I suffered through this movie last weekend. It was the worst movie I've ever seen, other than Drunk Punch Love. It was trying to hard to be this artistic deep movie, falling extremely short.
If you have a desire to see the movie even after reading this, wait till it's a rental. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 5 users found this helpful Posted: 11/2/2004A review of I Heart Huckabees by Andi_Wieters This movie stinks, BIG TIME. Not worth my $8.50, not worth a matinee either. Don't wait for it to show up at Blockbuster (which should be next weekend), do not even wait for it to show up on cable (the following week). I was so thoroughly disappointed with this movie. People were getting up and leaving, as I should have. Maybe if I smack myself in the face with a big red ball enough times, I'll be able to forget this incredibly terrible movie.
P.S. Amazingly enough, I did not make up that little therapy technique... its in the movie. Was this review helpful?
