Why do people treat him like he's Jesus? (talk about overrated) Write a couple songs and be tormented and change every so often and they'll make a movie about you. People are stupid...and so is this movie. Was this review helpful? However, what started as a Dylan "Tribute" Biography ended putting him in a bad light. I'm not saying that they had to butter him up and make him something that he wasn't, but come on. Also, all of the characters had the same attitude about them. ( minus christian bale) How many sides can he have if they are all the same one? I love Bob Dylan, but he wasn't painted as being a musical genius, he was painted as being an arrogant cheater. While he may have been those things I would have liked to see the film focus on his music rather than what a horrible and crazy person he was. It would have been better if they would have just used Christian Bale, out of all the actors he was the most believable. Was this review helpful? I like Bob Dylan's music and was agreeable to go despite my daughter's pleas to see Enchanted instead. It was okay. It takes a little while to become orientated to the sometimes chaotic progression and tortured representation of Bob Dylan's life. Cate Blanchette was absolutely amazing as Jude the Bob Dylan of the 60's. We all thought it preposterous that a woman would be able to pull off this role...wow, were we wrong. She not only pulled it off, she was incredible in the role. I believe she will get an Academy nomination for this role. The young boy, also an interesting casting of a young African American boy, is great too. The only part that was unnecessary was Richard Gere's role of Billy the Kid type outlaw, the reclusive Dylan. It explores his Christian conversion in the 80s sketchily. We left the movie with the overall feeling of satisfaction. It was interesting and kept our attention. I looked at my watch only once, which for me the the litmus test of how good a movie is, during the Richard Gere part. We all left and wondered what Bob Dylan thought of the film. It was not particularly flattering and metaphorically speaking showed the end coming after his motercycle accident which changed his poetry and tone for sure...but, leaves out the whole grown up Dylan that I enjoy now in my adulthood, after which came Every Grain of Sand, probably one of the most beautiful songs I have heard and important in his musical evolution. Overall, this movie full of metaphors and multi-faceted characters, was worthy of our day after Thanksgiving movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-4 of 4 Per Page | ||
