What a disappoinment, this movie was nothing but a waste of time. ABSOLUTELY NO HORROR involved in this film. It tried to be a torture movie but ended up beign Euro trip. What a piece of crap. I was expecting to see somethign liek Saw but ended up seeing a terribel excuse for a horror movie. I've seen gorier movies when I was in high school. They shouldnt advertise a movie as gory when there are only a few small scenes in in portraying torture and gore. glad I didnt see this crap in the theatre. I only paid .99 cents to rent it from blockbutser and i wish i had that dollar back. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  I LOVE HOSTELPosted: 5/22/2007A review of Hostel by Jmanindahouse1 In an age where filmmakers try to get their films to appeal to a younger audience by getting a PG-13 rating I must say that it is nice to have a director such as Eli Roth who is not afraid to push the limits of the average moviegoer. Sure Hostel is disgusting and disturbing but I must say I loved every minute of it. I realize that a movie such as this can be difficult for some people to watch but as a horror fan this was a real treat. I will be the first to tell you that Hostel will not win any awards for best story ever created but it is still one of the best grossout movies of our time. P.S. I CANNOT WAIT FOR HOSTEL 2! But still, this movie definately didnt live up to hype. I expected this movie to be so terrible i would be traumatized, but i was left with a few gross out parts and not much else. I konw a lotta people were bitchin about so much sex in the first half but i think eli roth did that to give out a sense of light-heartedness so the rest if the movie would seem more shocking. The thing that really selled this movie to me was that it felt real, like that could actually happen to anyone. Oh, and the revenge scene at the end kicked ass. I would reccomend this for a rental. An interesting psychological drama regarding a new breed of thrill seekers, and their sadistic master who provides the chilling entertainment. Personally, when this writer saw this, there was more amusement that fear being generated, perhaps due to the fact that this society has already become too jaded. Remember the gladiator sports in Rome? America is the new Rome, and the new entertainment is the movie, instead of the arena. That is, unless they start televising live sports shows to the death, or crucifying christians again. Who cares. The world will not change in its sad descent into more vile degradation. However, a good plot, such as in Hostle, despite the graphic brutality, is worth watching. Just dont eat anything before or during the film, if you have a weak stomach. Was this review helpful? Its basically like all others say in the beginning...three college guys who just want to have ... with these women they are told by Alex, that in this certain place you can find ones who will do anything. Well their friend Oli, goes missing and then Josh gets drugged and wakes up to horror...well go see it to find out the rest. Pretty good movie...must see if your into that kind of stuff. Well, enjoy. Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  No Cabin Fever here, but still enjoyablePosted: 7/29/2006A review of Hostel by critic-all This movie was a bit of a frustrating start and at first seemed to not be going anywhere, but when it picked up Eli Roth proved once again he is able to gross out the audience with graphic images of blood and gore. Though not as much blood and humor as his previous Cabin Fever, he did manage to surpass such similar movies as Saw and Saw 2, which were also excellent movies. Eli Roth seems to have a way of telling his audience that he does not care what the critics think of his films by pushing his limits as far as they can go and being as graphic as a director can possibly get. Hostel also seems to remind us how movies used to be. its fun to watch AFTER you have eatin that plate of spaghetti---Recommended!! Was this review helpful? Yes i did have to sneak into the movie as it was an 18 and i am only16 (I saw it for my 16th) and did get a bit embrassed as i was with my mum but the gore and horror in this was brilliant and even as it was not scary it was very gory which did have me covering my eyes and screaming (that eye scene) as well as giving you a couple of eye covering moments it was a brillaint storyline esepecially to revenge part. The writing was incrediable and I cannot wait to get this on dvd and enjoy the gore, storyline and for me Jay so you cannot just say the it is a movie for the guys!!!! Was this review helpful? No horror what so ever in the first half or more of the movie. Only porn and sex alone which should have been rated as so as horror does not usually include such graphic scenes as actually having conversations in a group with one couple having detailed sex in the background.Just 3 guys on constant hunt for any sex or sight of naked women by any means...cell phone cameras, books, windows and hookers as with every female role played in the entire movie. Very visual and graphic sex. Equals the torture scenes in compassion. If you have young kids ot teen agers, do not watch this one thinking its horror. You have to get well passed half the movie to come to any horror...if thats what you call it. Then it is merely torture and a few frills of that. You actually want these guys to get it but by who are they getting from? A goup of sick individuals which pay to tortue anyone? Not sure. Who finds these people for them? Not sure and dont care by then. No plot. No good acting. No good dialoque. No understanding of the half horror film. The worst movie of the year and the worst abuse of information of its rating system on content ever seen. How did this one ever get out? The torture may be a little out there for the kind hearted and squimish. Some may not understand the plot but if you do well following weird plots this is your type of horror.To watch this movie you need to not miss a thing or you might just miss a frightening moment or important info. We bought this movie for 22 dollars and we should have been paid to watch it! Like others have said, the first hour was nothing but college guys getting jiggy in a foreign country (great to college guys and HS kids to watch for sexual relief, or a substitute for a porn). I mean, come on! Eli Roth is fabulous, I loved Cabin Fever, it had the usual sex scene, but it had depth and unpredictability. Hostel had nonsense and stupidity with the characters and the partying, especially the whole doctors buying US people to cut them up and torture them. The disheveled character that lived was very unbelievable, as was the props for the body parts and cutting off of the body parts. But, this is just my opinion, and it was a total waste of Eli Roth and Quentin Taratinos time, and I LOVE TARATINO and ROTH! Im the number 1 horror movie fanatic and Sin City lover (a must see). The actors were great in their roles you can actually feel their emotions as things start to develop. When you start to think this is just another middle age serial killer gone mad, the movie takes you to the next level!
