So many of todays remakes kill a favorite (aka Dukes of Hazzard), but Disney did excellent in remaking this one. Im now ready to watch the old ones again because there were so many clips that made me think of the original. This movie is for the entire family. This is my 1 movie for 2005!!! It brought a smile to my face and I laughed throughout the entire movie. I thought it was played out well and dont believe that it should change in anyway. Its not easy to play second fiddle to a car, and a 40 year old car at that, but it was done brillantly by all. Both my young kids and older kids enjoyed it , as did any one I told to go see it. Lindsay did a great job as di the rest of the cast. Thanks Disney for bringing back something kool from my kidhood that I could share with my kids and not worry about what was being said or shown. 5 thumbs up. you folks out did yourselfs..

I just took my 4 children to see it as they are already huge Herbie and Nascar fans and was thrilled to find such a great family movie. Herbie just goes to prove that a movie can be entertaining for everyone without filthy language, violence or sex. Finally a movie a parent doesn't have to worry about taking their children to. I felt the movie stayed with the true spirit of the Herbie I grew up with and the modern elements only enhanced it. Thanks for such a great show! Was this review helpful? This is great for all ages, and if you really like VW's like I do, this just makes it even better, anyone that will miss this movie, will be out a great time!!!! All the cast is PERFECT!!!! And I hope we get another one in the near future!!!!

None of us are great fans of Ms. Lohan, but she performed her character of Maggie well. As the daughter of a racing family whose championship days have fallen on the hard times of winless seasons, Maggie just wants to race. But her father, who had already lost her mother, can't bear the thought of losing Maggie in a crash. So Maggie tries to rein in her desire to be a racer, but Herbie, her car, is wonderfully nonverbally persuasive as he faces the challenge set by the reining Nascar champion, Trip, and trips him up so that Maggie has no doubt she should race. She and her high school buddy soup Herbie up to be a competitive race car and they eventually end up with Maggie being the first Peyton to win a race since her grandfather's day--a Nextel cup race no less.
I leave the details to you, the viewer, to see when you watch the movie, but rest assured it is fully wholesome family entertainment--I took a 15, 13, and 3 year old to see it and all enjoyed it. One suggestion to the critic for MSN--please watch the movie before reviewing it next time--Herbie does not talk, and Maggie's dad thinks that women should race--he just didn't want his daughter to. Even Disney as it is today wouldn't dare tamper with the known successful Herbie formula that drove us to the theater in the 1970's to see all the earlier Herbie movies, and this one holds true to the tradition, only updating for the new Nascar standards and some newer special effects that only add to the fun. Herbie was adorable, I know, I'm talking about a car here, but still. The visual effects and stunts were done really well. Lindsay Lohan played the owner of Herbie, I think she did really well, she's a good actress. This movie has something for everyone, it has action, comedy and drama. And of course a little romance thrown into there. It's a good summer movie with some hearty laughs.
