WHAT A FILM!!!! ORIGIONAL AND INTELLIGENTLY WRITTEN. THE SUBTLENESS OF THE SEARCH OF THE HEDWIG TRYING TO FIND HIMSELF(HERSELF) AFTER A TRULY CONFUSING LIFE ALTERING EXPERIENCE. THE CHARACTERS ARE CARTOONISH BUT POSESS REAL ENDEARING QUALITIES. THE COSTUMES AND PERFORMANCES ARE HILARIUS. AS MOVIES ON DRAG, GLAM ROCK AND TRANSEXUALS GO HEDWIG IS THE TOP!!!

I don't care if you're gay straight bi trans - it doesn't matter. All that is required is an open mind (haters need not apply). Brilliantly done film. Absolutely brilliant. Mitchell's acting and storytelling are beautiful. I wish I saw the shows live ---The music is sad and happy and beautifully tragic all at once. If you don't feel any emotion after watching this check your pulse! My boyfriend (very straight, not his "type" of movie) loves it as much if not more than me - and he owns the CD...Heard he is working on another project. Can hardly wait to see what his next vision is.....

John Cameron Mitchell is a beautiful woman! In this movie you come to love Hedwig ,who first appears as an outspoken transvestite with crude lyrics and selfish goals. As the movie progresses, you learn of Hedwig's struggles and truly feel all the heartbreak that fills her life. Stephen Trask adds the perfect emotion with his songs of Hedwig's desires and past disappointment. By the end you want to sing along and join Hedwig's groupies who wear giant styrofoam wigs. But then she's gone, her journey is complete. A beautiful song ends her saga and you just want to know more. Best of all it's not a hollywood movie, it's so much better!! John Cameron Mitchell directs, writes, and stars and he shines!! Believe me you will watch it over and over, my boyfriend even loves this movie (I'm a hetero girl) and he hates musicals.

John Cameron Mitchell is a master! This amazing off-broadway play based on a character from his past and honed through the drag nightclubs of New York City translates beautifully into an equally amazing movie. The images are vivid, the storyline is beautifully and originally developed, and the music fits with the story so perfectly that it's difficult to not think of composer Stephen Trask as a genius. But the most awe-inspiring factor is the acting. John Cameron Mitchell in the lead role is heart-breaking. I have never empathized with a character as much as I did with Hedwig. You'll wonder how you could ever understand the emotions of a gay transsexual rock musician when you walk in and you will never look at yourself the same when you leave. Miriam Shor and Micheal Pitt are also great. And the last mention goes to Andrea Martin in her hilariously brilliant performance of The Angry Inch's manager. Get the DVD just to see her portrayal of an implanted phone. Brilliant all around!
