But there's nothing even the least bit entertainin in watchin 2 (supposedly) full grown men riding around in a car saying stupid nothings and making all the wrong choices about every situation. At least a lesson was learnt...u act like dat and u gon end up either dead or (bleep)-up! Was this review helpful? I wasnt at all disappointed with this movie, it was incredible!!!!!!!!!! Not too often that I will watch a movie over again but I enjoyed it so much that I watched it with a friend again the next night. I am not suprized at all of the bad reviews, there probably isnt enough one liners for the mainstream movie watcher and not enough dancing colors and loud noises to keep them entertained, some may be disappointed because this movie may require actual thinking. Christian Bale is so amazing in this movie and I am so glad that I didnt listen to all of the stupid reviews or I would have missed an excellent movie. Was this review helpful? I am sure each of the writers who walked out of the film have sat through 2hrs. of absolute crap in comparison to this film. Chistian Bale was excelent! How you cannot immediately see his characters disfunction as a normal citizen is beyond me. This film captures the maddening decline of ones self and mental singularity to the brainwashing and conformity of being a killer for the military or the fed, for that matter. His sense of self importance thrown in with his own depravity creates this fictious world in which Jim (Christian Bale,s character) sees as his reality. In society people like him are screw-ups and crimials, so they go into the military to make something of themselves or the get straightened out and instead of learning social civility, they are applauded fore their ruthlessness and violent tendences. These traits are honed and strengthen. Normal society cannot hold them anymore and a God complex is born.
I loved the dialauge and dark edginess to this film. Training Day was no walk in the park either. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/21/2006A review of Harsh Times by Ihadtoowatchthiscrap This is a real LA dog, no story no meaning no acting, lots of violence and 2 hours of dawgs riding around in a car hold there johnson and barking crappy dialogue, it doesnt get any worse than this movie, worst of the year, almost walked out twice! MISS THIS DAWG!
The directing is pooooooor, the cinematography is out of focus, color like a Tony Scott want to be film, but never get there, very fuzzzzz, .
IN THE END - one big pile of CRAP. Ayers one good script the rest of his work is crap, hope he can keep trading in on one good script... Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/20/2006A review of Harsh Times by SlippingAbyss Although the promotion for this film portrays it as an action movie, Harsh Times is really more like a slice-of-low-life art film. The plot follows the relationship between two unemployed friends from the barrio as they teeter between self-destructive urges, drug use, committing to the women who love them, and the desire for a better life. It is almost Dickensonian, except instead of being about society verses the individual, it is about the individual addressing self destructive urges that threaten to destroy opportunity for a better life and social standing. Christian Bale is mezmerrising as the sociopath who desires to beome a cop, but yet who threatens the achievement of his goals by deficiencies of his own character Freddy Rodriquez is the charming but unmotivated buddy who allows Blaes influence to threaten his relationship with a beautiful and loving woman. It is very gritty and the conflict arises not out of an external struggle, but out of whether or not these characters will ruin themselves. Not for everybody, but if want a serious drama with a pyschological twist, this may be your cup of tea. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/16/2006A review of Harsh Times by jimmyz790 Harsh times was uncomfortable to watch but at the same time very powerful.
They could have shown more of Jims war experiences so we could understand better why he was so messed up. And also revealed a little more of the relationship between Mike and Jim. Were they childhood friends? Why were they so close.
The biggest flaw in the movies was the relationship between Freddy Rodriguez and Eva Longoria. She seemd out of place. She is way to beautiful to stay with a slacker like Mike.
I kept thinking how stupid Mike was for lying to her.
It was only at the end did I see that though Jim was nuts and getting worse. Mike truly loved his friend.
Mike seemed caught between wanting to do right by his grilfriend and being loyal to to Jim.
Powerful ending and also the right way to end the movie.
Jim was way to messed up to have a badge and gun. Was this review helpful? Its been a long long time since I have walked out from a movie. The acting was so poor, we werent sure if it was purposefully lame. We werent sure if we were suppose to love-to-hate the main characters OR think they were the hardest coolest guys ever in a fourteen year old suburbanite kinda of way. Between my friends falling asleep, others walking out, by boyfriend looking at me with can we just go look on his face, I was thinking of all the things I could have done with my money than sit through this piss poor movie.
After seeing the Prestige and loving Six Feet Under, I have lost respect for Christian Bale and Freddy Rodriguez. They are good actors and can redeem themselves.but not if they keep turning up with this watered down, lack of plot, silted script crap. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/12/2006A review of Harsh Times by rpond123 Chirstian Bale is quite good in this film and very different from all his other roles. His character is afraid to confront his War experiences, but only in his dreams or nightmares. But, as the film progesses he cannot keep his War experiences buried as he and his best friend Freddy Rodriguez rage through the streets of Los Angeles. What a characterization from Bale who tackles the Spanish language easily. I grew uncomfortable with him though because I kept wondering when he would begin slashing people. Disturbing film, but very good. Bale is excellent. Rodriguez is good and of course Eva Longoria is great. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
