Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/21/2006A review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by ARP751 Rushed, that sums up how I feel. Every scene feels rushed, like Alfonso was impatient. There were so many things that were in the book that I wanted to see, so many underlying plots that develop things that happen in the future stories that were missing, not even hinted at. Nothing that happens is explained well either. If I hadnt read the books I could watch this movie and enjoy but I would have missed 70 of the REAL story because there is one line that explains what takes an entire chapter in the book. Lets put it this way, years one and two in the books are much shorter than year three, but in the movies, year three is shorter than one or two, it just doesnt work well plot wise.
Another complaint is quiditch, there should have been more, when they played Hufflepuff we should have seen Cho Chang and Cedric should have been played out more. I dont understand how clouds turned into a dog shape either, that didnt happen and it was another part never explained in the movie. Harry didnt see a dog in the clouds, he saw a dog.
I did like the developing relationship between Ron and Hermione, it was clear how they could be growing closer instead Harry and Hermione. It showed that Ron and Hermione had time alone when Harry couldnt go to town. The thing though is it never made it weird, just showed that they were developing a friendship where they depended on eashother and were comfortable talking about random things now.
The best thing was showing how Harry felt and was confused and kind withdrawn worrying about what his life meant. While he was stuck at school he had time tho think and you could see that his time alone made him withdraw and a little more afraid to ask for help.He set himself up well for the future. The characters truely come alive and are brilliantly cast, I couldnt imagine anyone else for Snape, Sirius, or any of the students and especially the famous trio. I was sad not to see the old Dumbledore and apalled when I first laid eyes on the new Dumbledores pony tail in the beard thingy. This movie really had the emotional content and excellent visual effects and I thought it was genius how Cuaron manages to cram the whole book and complicated plot into a 2 hour movie, it was excellently done although not quite according to the book. It does leave a few things unexplained such as the relationship between Remus and Sirius, and Harrys Patronus but I guess that only makes you want to read the books more. All in all, this one was the best yet and I cant wait until the next one. Was this review helpful? But, if you havent, you probably would think that it was GREAT. Well, heres MY opinion... With its lack of details and un-explained ending, i would say it was OK, but still pretty bad. They put things out of order, twist them around, and leave parts out. If you went, and read, youll know what Im talking about. In retrospect, Id say it was OK but youll have to see the movie to understand... i rest my case ) Was this review helpful? Sign In 5 out of 7 users found this helpful Posted: 11/9/2005A review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by alunaya I found that this movie was the WORST movie ever from HP. The acting was bad espacially when Harry cries and the were-wolf...dont get me started on the were-wolf. I was disapointed. The book was FANTASTIC! And when i saw the movie i was really bumed out! You can tell it was a new produser! Not to be mean BUT THEY SHOULD REHIRE THE FIRST ONE!!!
my last word on this movie is...ew! Was this review helpful? Sign In 4 out of 7 users found this helpful Posted: 10/27/2005A review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by hotsxylady18 First off let me say i am a huge fan of the harry potter books. i didnt start reading them till the fourth book was out but i bought the fifth and sixth book the day they came out. i went to watch the movies the first day they were in the theater. And as soon as they were out on video i bought them. I walked out of Prizoner of Azkaban EXTREMELY dissapointed. Of course as everyone knows they left alot of stuff out that was really important to the story and in my opinion to the rest of the series. My husband and i got together right before book 5 came out. had no intrest in Harry Potter till we had no cable and nothing to watch so he agreed to watch Sorcers Stone and Chamber of Secrets with me. suprisingly to him he liked them ( i knew he would). he liked POA but he had never read the books and hes not a reader either. but after me saying what all they left out he descided to read POA. He understood then why i didnt care for the movie. Dont get me wrong i agree you cant put every little thing in the movie but my whole thing was DONT cut stuff out and at the same time ADD stuff thats not even relevent. example the shrunken head on the bus i HATE that part! why spend time on stupid stuff like that when you could instead put stuff in there that pertains to the book! And i belive true fans would absolutely LOVE a 4 hour Harry Potter movie. people still watched Lord of the Rings as long as they were they would do it for harry too. i know i would!!! Had to get that off my chest lol Thanks! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/10/2005A review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by preppy_brunette_chick Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a film that shows you the life of Harry Potter and his friends Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley through the eye of a fellow witch or wizard. Whether you are 6 or 66, this film pleases its many audiences by captivating their minds and engaging their imagination.
Personally, I would love to see how it would be to be a witch (in my case) and have the use of a wand. I am also fascinated by the knoweldge that I could get from everything that exists in the wizarding world. Who wouldnt want to fight side by side with the famous Harry Potter?!
This third installment of this seven book series is a lot darker than the first two. As well, the characters evolve and mautre (the boys' voices change as well as their looks) as they take head-on the many challenges they will have to face.
Physically, they all change slightly, finally hitting puberty. Hermione has ditched the skirts and wears jeans which looks better already and she sticks up fopr herself and punches Malfoy for his ill-said comment.
All in all, this movie was pleasing and entertaining and kept me wanting more until the next chapter will come. Was this review helpful? Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 4/20/2005A review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by Anonymous I always thought that this was common knowledge, but let me restate it for those who seem to have forgotten. While doing a book to movie translation, sometimes scenes or lines must be omitted, altered, or had the best intentions when filmed but do not make the final cut. I believe that this was the case with Prisoner of Azkaban. Although there were several things that were omitted that are ultimately important (i.e. the origins of the Marauder's Map), I still enjoyed the film because Alfonso Cuaron felt confident enough to do what he thought that the movies needed. The mood of this film was exactly what was needed to be done because it foreshadows the challenges that Harry and company must overcome in the rest of the series. Darkness just beckons me to come.........
Speaking of which, I am sick of some (rabid) fangirls dissing David Thewlis and Gary Oldman (Remus and Sirius) because they were not "hawt" enough to play those characters. Personally, I think that they are both quite charming and handsome.
Let me remind these individuals that Remus and Sirius have been through a lot for the last 12 years. They won't suddenly magically deage in front of us and become the men (physically) that they were on October 30, 1981 when they are with Harry. Sorry, it just does not happen like that. Also, everyone has a different image of how the characters from any book will look like. You can't expect all of the actors to look like the characters as you imagined. I personally think that David and Gary, along with Timothy Spall (Peter) did excellent jobs because of the maturity and the darkness that they brought to these characters. Besides, I haven't heard that much fuss with Alan Rickman, who I remind everyone, is 59 years old. Was this review helpful?
