I cried so hard at the end of Half Blood Prince!!This is a movie you can't decide upon the first time you see it you miss so much the first time around.You really get it the second and third time around.A terrific movie from a real person who really knows Harry Potter!I have read all the books more than once.The first time I saw it it did not seem the same as it did the second time.I give this movie more than 10 stars Was this review helpful? I drag my husband with me and he usually enjoys the movies. I always enjoy them but I was so dissappointed with this one. I knew something was different about it but it had been a while since I'd read the book. My poor husband was totally lost and didn't enjoy it at all. The movies usually follow the books fairly well even if they have to be tweaked a bit. Well this movie is so different from the book and the director took a lot of artistic latitude with it. I re-read the book just to be sure. They change scenes, charactors, sequence of events and give the movie a totally different feel from the book. They leave important things out of this movie and added a scene (about the Weasleys home) that never took place in this book. I hope that the next movie is better and follows the story that was so well written. JK Rowling where are you? Was this review helpful? I have read the book,but my friend had not and she was asking me thur out the whole film if we can leave,or...what?...It was very good,but again i would not recomend if you have not read the book! I am a die hard Harry Potter fan. I had the book on tape for the Half-Blood Prince. I was so excited to see it on the big screen. I took my boyfriend with me. It was his first Harry Potter movie and he was like, don't ask me to ever go to another. I was so embarrassed. Who ever directed this movie did not read the book AT ALL. Over half of the book was not in the movie. And what's up with only twenty minutes of 3D action in the movie. Why in the H_ll wasn't the entire movie in 3D. The film cut out all the things that make the books exciting and fun to read. So far (and this is the SIXTH film) we've not got a film, yet, that comes close to the novels in quality. I have liked the other HP movies, but this one was, frankly, boring. I hung in there waiting for a strong finish and the movie just ended. This felt like a 2.5 hour build-up to the next movie. Stunning visual effects and appropriate acting. As far as a movie that is based off a book, like the last five, it met expectations. Obviously, they cannot fit a 750-page novel onto a 150-page script but the omission of unnecessary scenes that were not in the book could have helped in putting scenes that were in the book into the movie. It was a good movie and I intend to go and see it in IMAX, but I am an easy to please Harry Potter fan.
I recommend fans of the book to go to the movie with low expectations to avoid disappointment. Was this review helpful? They couldn't have done a better job. After rereading the book AFTER the movie, as I refused to read it for the year before, the movie was perfect. Personally I liked this story, I know it is a setup for the next two in that we find out about Snape and all of his issues.
However, this was much more of a drama than an action only movie. The last two movies have been much more about action and not so much of a drama. If I was to rate it I would give it a solid B.
