This movie was very good. It is a movie that is stripped down to the bare essentials. The directing and acting were very well done. This is a movie that has you thinking throughout the film. The ending was powerful. I highly recomend this movie if you are a fan of movies. The story has alot of hard issues to deal with, but that is real and that is life. Sometimes we need a movie to remind us of the evils out there, it makes you appreciate your life and your loved ones!

This movie was great!! It keeps you on the edge of your seat right to the very end... Those who say it is no good obviously are boring people with boring lives!

Please dont waste your money on this horrible movie... about Ben affleck... better luck next time, perhaps you can show your talents on a movie not so depressing... I felt as if I was watching CNN... movies abusing children ... don't we have enough of that in the real world? we can't even take a night out in the town to relax and have fun at the movies? I'm so embarrased I paid to watch that kind of garbage...

If you enjoy the foulest of foul language uttered in almost every sentance, so much mumbling by Casey Affleck (apart from when he is mouthing obscenities), a distorted plot line, and a bad directing job, then this is the movie for you! What can Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris, two of America's finest actors, have been thinking, when they agreed to participate in this ghastly film? I fidgeted throughout the movie and kept trying to see the time by my watch, I wanted to get out of there so much. Wish I had said so to my husband, who was feeling the same way. A very tiny audience - around 10 people - two of whom got up and left after suffering 20 minutes of it. No more Ben Affleck movies for us. A total waste of time and money - all to hear offensive language and witness bad acting by the 'star'. No more movies connected with Ben Affleck for us.

Directing and screenplay deserve an oscar...acting on the part of Casey, not so good. This is not your 'feel good' movie, but then real life dramas regarding child abuse, drug use, pedifiles, child molesters, and social injustice never are. Ben's directing took the viewer to the Boston streets, made them see what is going on there, and then introduced the innocence of a child thrown into it all. With everyone leaving the theater asking, "What would you do?", the only unbelieveable part was that Casey's love interest put their relationship on the line over the same question. Definitely a good art film with moral overtones worth addressing.

This is the dumbest movie I have ever seen in my life. My husband wanted to walk out during the first 10 minutes but I insisted we stay, hoping the movie would redeem itself. That never happened! I had the plot figured out pretty early on and I was hoping that I would be met with a twist at the end. Unfortunately Casey Affleck was totally unbelievable in his role, his voice ( a weak attempt to be Ben), and his dumb decision at the end left me furious. The funny thing is that everyone else in the film, including Michelle Monaghan, was great. This movie would have been better if Casey Affleck and Ben Affleck had been elsewhere during the production. My advice, Casey, don't ever try a dramatic role again, Ben is not an acting coach so stop trying to imitate him. Ben, please stay in front of the camera and don't ever get behind a camera again until you have been taught what makes for a good movie. Mystic River was a great movie, and Clint Eastwood knows how to direct a great cast and create a good movie. Ben, take lessons!

This was a really difficult movie to follow. The story line is not beliveable at all. I dont what to spoil the ending but anyone who sees it will know what I mean. The motives and the twisting thinking is far from reality. Had to determine who we are supposed to like or dislike in this movie. The acting was good but nothing can save this movie. I'm sorry that I disagree with the average user revieiw.

If you understand the art or directing and acting, this movie is great. For those shallow individuals who aren't capable of that, they'll either be offended or bored. Great directing, great acting. Story line is the only weak point, could be stronger, but it's a screen-play from a book. There's only so much tweaking one can do. The movie, thankfully, lacks all of the artificial theatrics of blockbusters. You can actually focus on the art, rather than annoying music and special effects that blockbuster films tend to have. People are so simple-minded that they allow the backdrop effects of a movie define whether it was "good" or "bad". It's a shame more people can't look beyond "fluff" to see the art of film making. This movie is worth seeing and wil be a definite DVD home library addition. Ben nailed this one and I hope to see more films directed by him in the future.

Just to say how bad it was, let's say that on the way to the movie theater my husband said i was going to like the movie, because i like any kind of movie, it was a last minute choice, since hubby was going to watch Saw IV. It was depressing, considering I have a small daughter, about same age, the whole missing child was just a torture, nonsense. I know there are drama movies, but it was worse than drama. Casey Affleck voice it was annoying, u barely couldn't understand what he was saying. I stayed the whole thing, thinking it would change course midway, but it just got worse and worse. I normally don't write reviews about movies, but this one i have got to write, in case someone needs an advice. Boring, depressing, no action, no suspense, jut blah blah talk, and a loooooot of cursing. Sorry Ben Affleck, you directed well, but the movie script horrible, the worst movie I saw in my life, maybe next movie will be better. Horrible ending as well. Morgan Freeman doesnt' save the movie, because poor thing, he is only in 4 scene. Bad bad bad....

Well, I think the title states it all: ok movie with mediocre acting. The girl in the movie was actually not bad (the investigator's partner), but Casey Affleck is proving to be a "fine" actor, just like his brother. I agree with previous reviewer: Why does he slur his speech all the time? To the point where it becomes distracting. On the other hand, the movie kept me entertained to a degree. If I could assign stars in increments, it would get two and a half stars.

Saw it yesterday, thought that it was just ok. I did not enjoy Casey Affleck's acting, especially his slurring speach. What is up with that? For some roles, I think they got actual druggies, because you can't make up a face like some of those women had! Anyway, three stars for Gone Baby Gone.

I saw the movie yesterday because it had sold out of the theater on both Friday and Saturday. I thought Ben did a fantastic job with his directing debut. Can't wait to see what's next for him. The movie itself was great. And again, the theater was sold out. People were still in line waiting to get tickets for the next showings. The cast outstanding. I felt it was both a mystery and thriller. It kept my attention the whole time. I really didn't see the end coming. I thought for sure it ended another way. Good surprise. Everyone left the movie all asking themselves what they would do. Hard decision. Still not sure what I'd do. It's a sad movie but is life. This sort of child abuse happens everyday in our world. Loved every minute. Great job to all involved.

I thought this movie was good, but not great- I did find the decision made at the end of the movie to be the point of the whole movie- What would anyone do?? Did he do the right thing? Wonderful performances from Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman, as usual...However, I was anxious to revisit Casey Affleck's acting, as I had just seen the "The Assasination of Jesse James......". I thought his acting, my first time seeing him, was phenomenal, with just enough creepy factor to convince me he really was Robert Ford. I really though it was an Oscar worthy performance, UNTIL, I saw him in this movie and realized I just saw the same character, with a little less creepiness. He had the same soft voice, same inflection, same kind of creepy eyes. Anyone else see this? Now I need to see him in a third film to convince me he can really act. I would recommend the movie, it is worth seeing. It is not an upper if you are looking for a good time, however. There are several great films out now- Can't wait for even more to open.

I recently saw this movie and not quite sure whether I enjoyed it or not. I thought it was very depressing and also that I had seen it before. I know the person who wrote it also wrote Mystic River and I believe the stories are a little similar. I'm also from an older generation and can't for the life of me understand why every other word out of their mouths has to be the "F" word. I'm not offended by it really but just think it didn't have to be used sooo often. I know it's used like "the" & "and" now but that doesn't mean everybody agrees with it. All, in all, it wasn't a bad movie but my heart really felt for the little girl at the end.

This is a very good movie. Good work from all involved. Ed Harris is one of the best actors working today. More than a mystery or thriller. Well paced and well directed. Amy Ryan's work as the mother is mind blowing. Casey Affleck's low keyed style of acting works here. The decision at the end of the movie is unsettling to us all. and questiionable . What would we have done. ? I think most would say it was the wrong decision but if you look a layer deeper into moral obligation, was it?? Go see this movie. Good work from Ben Affleck. I knew he had more in him than some of the junk he has done.
