Making a colored regiment was tough back in those days and being a leader of a colored regiment was tough as well. In this movie it teaches people how they should be treated, with fairness and equality. This movie is about a colored regiment named the 54 being able to fight in the war. I think this movie was teriffic and I loved it when Mathew Broderick stood up and had enough courage to be a leader and fight with a colored regiment even though it meant geting treated like a African Slave himself. YOU GET CAPTIVATED INTO THE SITUATIONS THAT THE CHARACTERS FACE. IVE NEVER BEEN TO WAR OR ANYTHING, BUT I THINK THIS IS HOW WAR WOULD BE. (OR, SOOMETHING LIKE IT, AT LEAST.) Was this review helpful? The acting is great and the story is excellent. If you love history or even if you dont watch this movie, you wont forget it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful The plot of this movie is based on History its self. Even though some interpretative privilage was necessary, the screen writers did a very good job. There are many powerful scenes in this film, from the horrible excerpts of the battle of Antitiem, through to the final battle at the Fort Wagner - this was an extremely powerful film, it would be unfair to put one scene above others. This must be viewed as unity of events linked together. The first time I saw this film, I felt that it was the closest thing that I have felt personally since I was in the war in Vietnam. The audience was very powerfully effected by this film and left the Theater very quietly. One could feel the impact!! No additional words were necessary. Many of my personal friends said that they wept. As far as missing the ten greatest list is concerned? Racism and personal bias still lives. But that is just my opinion. Was this review helpful? My mother always taught us to have respect for everyone of every color. This is like the same respect the General in the movie had for his men serving under him.

This is one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood in decades.

Mike Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 12/27/2003A review of Glory by Genuine_Nap_Girl I'm a huge movie buff, and I've seen most of the movies chosen as the top ten war movies of all time. "Glory" tops them all, hands down. When we went to see this movie, we had no idea about the premise. What drama! What honesty! What an epic! This film portrayed the War in all its bigotry, all its horror and all of its majesty. The men, black and white, officers and enlisted men, were noble and brave and my eyes still tear up when I recall who the men were, what they had already experienced and what they were to endure. War really is Hell, and never have I seen this better acted, more beautifully filmed, then in "Glory." It is a privilege to own this movie in my film library. Was this review helpful? This is one of the few films that brings real emotion to those watching it. Was this review helpful? My favorite scene
is where they are singing hymns around the con-
fesion tree before the battle. Was this review helpful? I felt like I could relate to the individuals in this film. Impecible job. Was this review helpful? All these things make for a great movie, I highly recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. Was this review helpful? When I watch how African American Men are shown on TV and Film today I am saddened. There are too many negative images of Backe males in movies, videos etc Especially when some of it is done by us on to us, ie some rappers.
This movie however shows Black men at their bravest and at the worst time in history for African Americans. It shows how brave, smart loyal, and respectful we are.
It should be required viewing for every history student and especially Black males age 8 and up. Sadly most of us watch the Fridays with the Weed smoking and the videos claiming I'm a "pimp". It is also sad that this movie's positive images have not been repeated in the last ten plus years.

Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
