In this world of CRAPPY CGI, real SFX are a breath of fresh air. Extras playing the zombies makes it more believable, although it is not the same without Savini. Have you people not watched any other Romero zombie movie. THEY ARE ALL MADE WITH UN KNOWN ACTORS AT THAT TIME. Except for Land of the Dead but a good movie anyway. George A Romero is a master at plot and character development and if you missed it then you must have fallen asleep. Granted Night, Dawn and Day are the best of the Dead series but a director still making quality movies, HIS WAY no compromise, after 40 years is an elite class of few and far between! Acting is not supposed to be Oscar worthy, the dead are coming to life and coming after you, how would you act!?! And don't even compare Cloverfield to this movie, that was total crap. At least when George Romero makes a movie from the point of view of the person shooting it, living it, you can see what is going on. QUALITY not just shock value. I can't wait for another one. My only wish is that he would come back home to Pittsburgh to film more! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/24/2008A review of George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead by UnhappyZombie_filmluvr I felt cheated when I walked out of the theatre after I saw "Land of the Dead". I thought there was no way "Diary" could be as bad as "Land" was. Boy was I wrong!
This was the biggest pile of crap I've ever seen. This isn't even good enough to be considered a " B-movie". George, what the hell are you thinking? or were you even really involved in this ? This movie did look like the "actors" were college kids trying to get college credits.
Acting - ^*#$ed! the girl lead was the worst actress I've ever seen. Ever line she spewed out of her mouth was over acted and unbelieveable. None of the guy's were any better. Now the college professor was a real pile of crap. He carried a flask of hooch around the whole movie and took a swig every shot they showed him, at least a half gallon of what ever swag he was drinking had to have been consumed.
Photography - What a rip off of "Cloverfield" poorly done. Very, Very poorly done.
Special F/X - Hardly any at all. Most close up kills were done off camera and all you saw was the Actors looking toward the kill.
Highlight - Proof that the sun does shine on every dogs ass every once in a while was "Samuel" the deaf omish man. But his 4 minutes of the film doesn't justify the making of any of the rest of the film.
Please do not make the same mistake I made when I marched my happy as# into the movie store and purchased this DVD and expected to be entertained. I will give a low budget movie a chance and if it has a good story and is acted and filmed half-ass decent I'm usually the last to complain,But this is just unexceptable from someone with Romero's reputation. Skip this Movie all together. Do not rent and definitly do not buy this. I now own the complete "Dead" series on DVD and I wish I could get my money back. I feel cheated!
If your looking for some good Zombie entertainment try reading "Day by Day, Armageddon" or "Every Sigh, The End" both these books would make great movies. Maybe Romero needs to have... All Blair Witch Project jokes aside, the movie and concept wasn't all that bad. But sometimes the action sequences was just silly.
But what made the movie unbearable, was the horrible acting. Every character was so manufactured and typical. No one was authentic or showed personality outside of their character outline.
Do you even remember any of their names? See? nuf said.
Romero is batting 0 for 2 on this and his last movie. Too bad. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-4 of 4 Per Page | ||
