I WANT A MOVIE TO BE MEMORABLE, AND THIS ONE IS ABSOLUTELY STILL BOTHERING ME. I AM ALSO VERY FOND OF MICHAEL PITT. HE IS VERY CHARMING AND MAKES YOU WONDER WHAT HE IS CAPABLE OF. THERE WERE A FEW HOLES IN THE MOVIE AND I FOUND MYSELF MAKING UP MY OWN VERSION OF THE MOTIVE OF NOT ONLY THE KILLERS, BUT THE DIRECTOR AS WELL. I BELIEVE HE DID A PRETTY CLEVER JOB WITH THIS DEEPLY DISTURBING FILM. I DONT THINK I WOULD EVER WANT TO VIEW IT AGAIN, BUT WATCHING IT WAS DEFENITLEY AN EXPERIENCE AND I STILL SMILED AT THE END EVEN THOUGH ALL THE HORRIBLE EVENTS HAD OCCURED. I PERSONALLY WAS IMPRESSED.

THis movie *($@ed horribly. Please WB don't settle for anything. Ok any real parents would wait for them, the killers, to return so they could slowly and painfully torture them. And other thing who decides to run for help without arming themselves, knowinly the killers are still around. And another thing who sits at home without arming themselves, knowingly the killer is going to return to the house. Movie was garbage, and whoever decided that the killer could rewind his actions, another NO No! Come on please, I wanted to watch something else, but I decided to give this movie a go, how silly of me, that was a waste my time.

This was possibly the WORST movie I have ever seen! (The rating system doesn't allow for negative stars) I cannot believe that someone at Warner Bros. actually thought this was worth the time, effort, and money to produce. I would rather have spent the time trying to pull my eyelids down over my knees! I saw this on HBO and am seriously considering calling them to reimburse me for the wasted airtime that this 'film' (if you want to call it that) took up. I know that many people will not want to read this rant, but if I can save just one innocent person from seeing this cinematic pile of dung... then this review was well worth my time. In short, it would be less painful to lounge in a pile of fire ants...

this film had me thouroughly engrossed and on the edge of my seat--right up until Peter (Michael Pitt) looks into the camera and addresses the audience. i had to sit back and ask myself,' what just happened here?'. it happens 2 more times in the movie, the final time so stupid that it ruined the movie for me. i got the message that was being sent about violence in movies but for a movie to tell us that 'its only a movie' kills the whole point of watching it in the first place. we watch movies to displace ourselves for 2 hours and live in the film so to speak. the harsh reality of this film comes to an abrupt halt and made the rest of it uninteresting. too bad because it had the makings of a cult classic a la 'last house on the left'. i never caught my breath in that one. unfortunately the director breathes for us in this one.

I'm not a fan of the "torture porn" genre of films so Funny Games didn't do anything for me. However, if you're a fan of films in which sociopaths torture, torment and murder innocent people then you'll enjoy this. Granted, it isn't a bad film because it evoked so many emotions from me ranging from anger to shock to disgust which is exactly what Haneke wanted (I have seen an interview with Haneke in which he gave a greater understanding of his intentions). Most of the violence occurs off screen. The "funny games" of the title is more of a tongue-in-cheek reference to the director's manipulation of the viewer. This becomes more evident as the movie progresses, particularly in one of the final scenes that contains the single act of violence that is actually shown. This scene was met with a cheer of "Nice going!" from me. Then suddenly the rug was pulled from under my feet making me question exactly why I cheered that act of violence. Or even why I was watching such a film in the first place. Haneke is definitely making a powerful statement on violence and how film and media portray it. The film is not meant to be taken as a literal narrative but rather as a statement. Given his original film was made ten years ago, his statement is even more relevant now. Those who come away thinking it's a pointless film that shouldn't have been made are getting exactly the point Haneke is tryng to make. Funny Games will stick with you for days, and maybe even give you nightmares (I had one that same evening). Overall, it is a disturbing, depressing and thought provoking film but not one I will ever want to watch again.

Do not recommend at all, many people walked out in the beginning we decided to give it a shot, bad decision. This was one of the worst movies we have seen all year. If this was anything close to being realistic there would be no way two parents would not react without rage after seeing their child shot right before their eyes. Those 2 murderers would be begging me not to kill them if they ever tortured me and my family. Don't waste your money it was not entertaining and actually rather irritating.
