Full Metal Jacket is one of my top three war movies based on combat, boot camp experinces, and tragidies of war. R. Lee Ermey is superb in his portrayal of DI Guny.Sgt.Hartman. Not only was he a real DI with 12yrs., in the USMC, this made the impact of the movie "real". The fact that he was shot by Pvt.Pyle was not a likely outcome. However, it added to the pressure and stress of what recruits face. After the recruits went to war, it tended to fade into activities of leisure talking, sexual encounters and leader conflicts. It's all believeable, but not that easy. Still one my favorites. Arguably, #1,or2.

One of the best War Movies. As a Veteran I can attest to the Basic training and the Vietnam portion as being dead on. Kubrick was nearly perfect on this film. The Drill instructor (Lee Emery now of mail call fame) was exceptional and left no doubt he was the real thing. Kubrick used a minimalist approach of less is more. The film is actually two movies, Basic training and the TET offensive in Hue. An astute miniature of the war is captured by following a squad of Marines through their daily in country (around Hue)experiences. With a brilliant ending of killing a sniper Kubrick has captured the War in a nutshell. The start of the TET offensive 1968 as portrayed is right on(first hand experience there). If you want to get an accurate perspective on this type of War, Vietnam, see this film.

This is one of the best war movies ever. The beginning scenes at the boot camp set the stage for what follows and helps to learn what it took to become a Marine. Kubrick's directing is top notch as usual. After watching this you'll be singing the Mickey Mouse song in your dreams.

Dude let me just say that this was one of the best movies that I have ever seen! The Gunny really laid it all out in this movie. Private Pyle was also played by one hell of an actor. This movie was the best portrayal of boot camp during Vietnam in the long history of Vietnam flicks. Trust me once you see it you’ll want to watch it again and again.

I have seen TONS of war films, and I honestly feel that this one is the BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN! Most war movies show only a few minutes of basic training and have little to no character development. This movie is quite different. By the time the war scenes actually start, you already understand many things about the individual characters and about the whole mentality that is associated with the marines. Exceptional film! And in classic Kubrick fashion, it certainly shows the potential evil within all mankind.

This movie was awesome. The first half in basic training was comical. It is great listening to the drill sergeant tear into the ";maggots."; The second half, the war half, is fun. Ask yourself: if a human was in extreme pain, could you blow off their head and put them out of their misery? 100% satisfaction guarenteed, unless you can't stand violence.

I have seen this movie many times! I personnaly own it on DVD! As a Vietnam Veteran, I find this movie ";true to form!"; Everything in it from basic training to the combat action, I can find no fault with! Anyone comtimplating military service, should view this film. Many of the experiences in this movie, I experienced during my 4 tours of duty in Southeast Asia. Full Metal Jacket, has a lot of harsh scenes in it, so it is not for the squimish! Violence, sexual situations, profane language abound, in this movie! Well that is the real military at times! I recommend buying this movie!
