I love a movie that doesn't just serve you everything on a silver platter, I love movies that play with your mind, movies that challenge you, and this is one of those movies. Anthony Hopkins was excellent as always. He was devilishly cold and arrogant. Gosling gave a good performance also as the cocky, hot shot DA. This movie is most definitely worth the 4 bucks to rent. A friend was raving about it so two friends and I went off to see it today. WE LOVED IT! Of course, Anthony Hopkins is a superb actor and Ryan Gosling and the rest of the cast were right in step with him. Story had a great twist. Recommend it highly! It is one of these times we should not listen to the critics. Was this review helpful? Way too many necessary coincidences to make this contrived and often annoying plot seem even remotely interesting. Hotshot attorney? Even I could guess the twist of double jepordy after the coma scene. Well acted (1 star). Typical silly, overdone scenes (smoked filled courtroom? with bad lighting?).The obigatory boy-meets-girl-and-for-absolutely-no-re ason-they-are-in-bed- together scene? Im sorry. I had no idea what I was walking into, and Anthony Hopkins is a one of my all-time favorite class actors. I cannot imagine how this boring, plodding sceenplay would have survived without him. Not one character was even remotely interesting or emotionally appealing. Save your money, save your time. Wait till it comes on HBO. Better yet, read a book. Was this review helpful? I hadnt seen any previews for it but I saw the poster for it. Anything with Anthony Hopkins in it Im there. The beginning was great. I have to say that Anthony Hopkins outdid himself here. The middle was sort of slow but yet it still kept my interest. Now the ending is what made my mind going haywire. Never ever would I have came up with how this ending was going to work. It was well thought out and very original and unique. I recommend that you go see this. Im sad that this isnt do well right now. I hope it starts picking up. Go see it!!!!!! Hopkins demonstrates his genius once more with little nuances and direct glances toward the camera.chilling . He insinuates the depravity of Hannibel with none of the daily diet extras. Ryan Goslings portrayal of a young superstar lawyer was rich and intriguing. I believed I was keeping up until the end. DVD or big screen a good, ride. Was this review helpful? Its an intellegent, tight, suspense film with wonderful lighting and staging. It was as well done a Primal Fear and should shoot Gosling to the forefront of his generation of young actors. I am a glad that I went to go see this movie because Hopkins and Gosling did an amazing job in this movie. I enjoy Anthony Hopkins and wasnt disappointed this time. It really held my attention and I was trying, like the detectives, to figure out what happened to the gun and of course, once you know you ask yourself how you couldnt have figured it out. Acting by Hopkins and Gosling is amazing, love seeing them on screen together. As others have stated the one story line of Gosling and girlfriend is unnecessary and begs you to wonder who cares?
