I found the movie trashy is every sense of the word. A big fan of Reese Witherspoon, I was amazed she would take on this role. She must be short of money was the only excuse I came up with for her. A definate step down. Personally, I want Christmas joy and happiness and humor of the best kind at this time of the year and I found the entire movie to be the exact opposite. I do not, have not, and will not recommend this movie to anyone. Found Four Christmases to be rude, nasty, in bad taste, disrespectful to family, home, children, and the true meaning of Christmas. This film is great for some people but some people find it terribley boring. As I have seen reading some of the reviews. I really enjoyed the movie, I found it really funny I went to see it with my sister and her friend and we were in fits of giggles, through alot of it and the whole cinema seemed to enjoy it to. So I really do think it differs weather you like it or not. Read some of the reviews by users and by the critics and see if its for you. Although I doubted that trailers were indicative of a good movie, I like both Witherspoon and Vaughn. They play a great couple who always think of each other and do nice things for one another and avoid the holidays with family members they dislike by going on their own exotic vacations! Oooh! The nerve of some people!!
Unfortunately, all the movie delivered was the first fifteen minutes of good comedy. The repartee between Vaughn and Witherspoon was just wonderful. After that the movie took a single questionable joke or stunt and ran it over and over. For example, Vaughn's brothers attack him like the professional wrestlers they are. Witherspoon is forced to go into a children's game in which she was trapped when she was a kid and suffered emotional trauma. Vaughn is revealed to be named Orlando, after the city in which he was conceived. Witherspoon was a fat baby and the whole family revels in showing her fat pictures. If you have an IQ over ambient room temperature, you could not enjoy this movie! Baby barf might have been cute the first time, but it was disgusting after that. Falling off the roof and humiliating a kid on Christmas isn't so hot either.
It was bad enough that the entire movie, with its illustrious cast, degenerated into trailer park humor, but the ending reminded me unhappily of The Breakup and Nine Months. Despite enjoying wonderful things in each other, seeing the world and enjoying better things in life, Reese reveals she just doesn't feel fulfilled as a woman unless she has a baby. They just can't be happy going off to exotic locales during their vacations and enjoying one another's company!
This theme is pathetic enough, but to be preached about the value of family and babies from the Hollywood crowd? That was, perhaps, the funniest part of the movie or at least it would have been if the plot hadn't been so pathetic. Was this review helpful? Four dysfunctional families with charm of an eel willy-nilly acting, hoping the movie is over with, so they can go home. Vince is shouting and babbling throughout the movie without making any sense but you are expected to make sense out of all that.
If you are hard of hearing and have nothing else to do,well why not. Was this review helpful? We see a lot of movies and this was really bad. How anyone could think it was funny when about all it showed was dysfunctional everything, rude people, nasty people, and a plot that was just dumb. I am surprised these actors would lower themselves and play in this movie. We would have left but movies are expensive but the movie was so bad we should have left. We see two movies a week, every week, and out of all the movies we saw, and many were bad, this had to be the dumbest. The actors are better than choosing to work on a movie like this. Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful  Laugh Out Loud Funny!Posted: 12/3/2008A review of Four Christmases by chatrbx20 Reese Whitherspook and Vince Vaugh show a lot of electricity on the screen, even with the somewhat tired script they were given. However, this is a Christmas "must see". I expected to see a fun, light hearted movie, and that's what I got--except for the continuous laugh out loud antics of Witherspoon and Vaughn. The movie drags a little when it becomes serious toward the end, but that's mainly because you have to come down so quickly from all the fun and laughter. The good news, it picks right back up again and you hate to see the movie end!

(A yearly tradition) This is truly a bad movie, one of the worst this year. Not funny at all. I Actually thought about leaving, but with the prices at the theater; I miserably sat through it. Save your money and go see something else. It isn't even worth purchasing on a DVD. I'm even a big Vince and Reese fan too, but I guess all good acting must die too! Was this review helpful? Somewhere towards the last 30 minutes ( it's only 90 miniutes long) the story and the chemistry went south. The movie ended almost abrubtly like they ran out of film and Vaughn was late to start shooting another movie. The crowd seemed unimpressed and the entire theatre ( except for me) left even before the credits started to roll. Because of the poor ending I would say wait and save your money. This is one of those formula movies where all the relatives are irritating at first, and then you grow to like them by the end of the movie. Not this time. There is nothing to like about any of the relatives. The fourth visit to a relative's house was the worst. It was meant to be where you started liking all the relatives but this is where the money must have run out since it was brief and then you were at the final scene. Very disappointing.
