This was more sarcastic than anything. How can professional film critics call this smart comedy? Half of it is stoner humor. Jason Bateman is good and the guy that plays Nate the overbearing neighbor is funny, but the rest of Extract is a mess. You're given no reason to care about Suzie and no explanation for why Joel and Suzie, who seem to care about each other, only have relations once every couple of months. What? I never would have guessed that the guy playing Step is also Ayel in Star Trek. He did alright with what he was given, but this was nowhere as good as Office Space, which I still love. I thought it was great in the beginning and middle of the movie and then slowed down towards the end. Although it wasn't my favorite.... it was still pretty entertaining overall. Jason Bateman is such a unique kind of funny that I tend to think anything he does has to be good. Although Ben Affleck is not my fave, I was excited for a movie featuring so many actors I like a lot. I think Kristen Wiig is hilarious, and Mila Kunis is so quirky. However, I didn't think this movie was funny or even that interesting. There were a few funny things, and I like Jason Bateman no matter what. But why even cast someone like Kristen Wiig if she doesn't get a single funny line? And the things that were "funny" were just dumb drug or balls or moron jokes. These are really talented actor/comedians who can pull off way more than that. But Ben Affleck ended up stealing the show by default, because he seemed to be the only one acting like anything at all. I didn't expect Mike Judge to offer an intelligent, complex work of art. But he managed to disguise the talent of every major actor in the movie. I checked my watch every 20 minutes. While the movie certainly had it's funny moments and was somewhat entertaining, it's nowhere near a cult classic. The slapstick parts of the movie were hilarious, but they were too few and the story itself felt a little too slow lacking dynamic. Was this review helpful? True its not for everyone but enjoyed it overall. While its subject matter was outrageous thought it was well done and I recommend it to anyone with an open mind and a sense of humor. Don't know why he did this movie unless he was strapped for cash. Everybody knows his politics are wrong, too. The story line was typical of Hollywood's poor moral standards. It would have been better if they had let the characters retain their dignity through a mistakened identity but they had to put them through the expected twists and turns. The husband fell into the drug thing without any resistance and the wife was a easy tramp with a bimbo guy-----sounds like California logic, right? It was funny in places but was tragic overall. Hollywood is running out of scrips and they know it. No big named actors----I should have know better than to have spent my money on this one. Was this review helpful? The acting is great and the humor is terrific. I did not see one preview for this film and it came out of nowhere but it is really a must see. Was this review helpful?
