It is very entertaining and would be enjoyable for the whole family. Having Thoroughbred race horses for over ten years, I found some of the story a little far fetched and some parts not true to form, but the average movie goer wouldnt know that. Anyway, its refreshing to watch a movie with no sex or foul language and given the chance I would see it again. And as Kurt Russell said on TV, this was one of his best performances (and movies) along with all the other actors. Job well done!!! Was this review helpful? I hardly go to movies any longer because most have been disappointing. This is one of my favorites, right up there with the best of them. Not in the same class as Seabiscuit, but very enjoyable. Unlike most movies of today, this movie was clean and appropriate for anyone who likes a tearjerker. Dakota Fanning plays a very real sort of character who is very likeable. One of the best parts was about the stupid king... youll know when you see it. The end is predictable, but so much more satisfying than what you see in most other movies.
This is definitely worth seeing in the theaters for the cinematic and photographic qualities. It is also worth bringing the whole family for its good, wholesome entertainment. Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell work well togeher. To be hinest, I probably wouldnt have liked it as much if it wasnt inspired by a true story. All in all, this is a movie for the horse lover in everyone (Come on everyone has horse lover in them!) Was this review helpful? Its sweet and everything, but I think films about animals are very boring and uninteresting. Dakota Fanning is a fantastic actress. Shes in a lot of films and I love the way she acts. If youre fanatic about horses youll love it. Was this review helpful? With strong performances by Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell, who stole the show, the movie tugged at the heart and had the theatre audience clapping in unison at the ending. I did think Elizabeth Shue, as the ever so supportive wife, and Kris Kristofferson, as the grumpy grandfather, had less than convincing performances, but Freddy Rodriguez and Luis Guzman balanced any short falls. A must see for any family wanting a laid back and enjoyable night out, this film entertained even my grumpy teenager who clapped along with everyone else. Wonders will never cease. Kristofferson should be listed ahead of Elisabeth Shue! He was a much brighter star than she. He played the cranky grandfather of the delightful Dakota Fanning. Kurt Russell was a convincing horse trainer - burned by a past, and reluctant to repeat his history. Shue over-dramatized and over-acted in a minor roll as his wife. However, she could not eclipse Russells strong, silent cowboy image, nor his rocky relationship with Kristoffersons grizzly Pop. The movie ended too soon! I was wrapped up in the joy these three finally brought each other.
I took my daughter. She loved it for different reasons than I. She saw the story from the little girls point of view. And of course, once again, she wants a horse for Christmas!!

It's a movie that doesn't scare you, or loaded with bad language. A family movie with a story with meaning. Go see for yourself. Take your children. Was this review helpful? The story line is predictable, so we were hesitant, but the actors were solid, and we felt ourselves not wanting the movie to end. Great acting from the entire cast! Comical, heartwarming, good versus bad, encouraging. One I will buy when it comes out on DVD. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
