I'm new to the horror genre, and this movie did deliver terror, fear, disgust and shock to me, yet it made me more question what was so appealing about the horror genre.
The movie consists of watching Stephanie (the heroine or "victim") slowly lose her grip on reality and sanity over Mrs Ganush's house loan grudge. What is so appealing about watching the heroine slowly suffer and die? There is no purpose to the movie. And at the end, the heroine is killed. This may be just the way the horror genre works, but it disgusted me personally.
Still, I'm giving this movie 2 stars since I believe it delivered the terror and disgust it was meant to deliver. I suppose I'm just not a fan of the genre itself. But if you're a horror fan and you want to be terrified and disgusted, then this movie will probably deliver for you.
I think it should also be noted that this movie should *not* be classified PG 13. It is at least MA15 and there are very few 15-year-olds I would show this movie to. Was this review helpful? I mean, I knew that the plot was going to make no sense but I actually had no idea that it was going to be a comedic horror. There were some cheap, gross thrills and the main character Stephanie was horrible. I had no choice but to route against her the whole time due to the way she portray herself and the stuff she did. Some of the situation and scenes were just annoying and frustrating to endure.. It was a total over hyped movie that did not deliver.
Sam Raimi needs to get back to making, cheesy Spiderman movies. C'mon Ive expected a lot more from a pro. Please make a negative -5 column, so people can rate it accordingly. Was this review helpful? I thouhg this movie was incredibly entertaining, and what more can you want from a night at the theater? It made me jump, it made me laugh and it made me go eeww! I don't get scared by the horror movies that are generally made these days, they are trying too hard and miss the mark, but this hit the target dead center, and has made me recommend it to many people.

If you ever seen or a fan of Evil Dead series, you would understand the film. For me personally I felt te film was a good one, not great but good and I could've waited till it came out on DVD but in the spirt of not seeing a "scary" movie in a while I gave it shot and went along with my boyfriend to see it. Although it did have a couple of scary moments, the funny ones were the ones that caught my eye. The movie seems almost like a remake of the Stephen King movie, "Thinner". I went to see this movie on opening night at a packed theater. Since no one had known anything about this movie, that made it even better. The major scary part of the movie for me was when Stephanie was asleep, then wakes up and sees Ms. Ganush in front of her, saying, You shamed me! I could not get any sleep because of that part, and I still lose sleep because of that. This movie made me think about all of the things that I had done wrong in the past. Trust me, the past is not at rest. Since I LOVE all horror movies, I plan to add this one to my collection. I think Sam Raimi should continue to make horror movies as scary as this. The part when Alison sacrifices the cat was the part that made almost every female in the theater start to cry. I still think the previews on TV should have been banned, because they told almost everything. The previews even showed the ending. Since I do love all horror movies, I even love this movie. I am still skeptical if I should buy the DVD or not. I mean, it was intense and graphic, which is how I love horror movies. But it was also insanely loud, so I am going to buy it regardless of the sound. See it if you want, but beware. It is insanely loud, intense, and scary.
