I came in thinking I was going to be dissapointed (how good can a movie based on a ten page book be) but i was blown away. The movie had quick funny lines, great actors, and good visuals. Its humor may be a little old for a Dr. Suess book but it had good jokes for little kids as well. Was this review helpful? The film is based off the popular childrens book by Dr. Suess about a Cat, wearing a red and white striped hat, that goes over to visit a couple of children alone on a rainy day and causes all kinds of mischief. I have to confess while growing up I was a huge fan of Dr. Suess books, but I loathe the films as an adult irony at its best. Unfortunately, though, the films humor seems questionable and may frighten small children. In one scene, the cat has a knife and threatens another cat by saying, Ill get you, and Ill make it look like an accident. I usually hate these parents that are always whining about violence on t.v., films, and whatever but I would have to agree with them on this one. Sure, the Grinch @ed but at least it made its humor and story was suitable enough for kids because after all it was a kids film based on a kids book. The special effects look too artificial, and the characters were all too weird and annoying. However, the only plus side is that I though with the exception of a few scenes Mike Myers seemed born to play this role. Overall, I would advise parents to stay away from this. I enjoyed the colors, the characters, the commedic performances....some of the dialog was a bit much for the younger audiences. However, this movie keeps you laughing and has a good meaning at the end. It teaches a valuable lesson in a fun way. The action of the movie was great. I recommend this movie if you like to laugh and enjoy hallarious movies..rent "The Cat In The Hat"....Eventually you'll buy it. Was this review helpful? I'm sad that I didn't read up on the reviews on this movie before I rented it. The first 5 minutes interested me, but from there on the story was pretty much the same. The actors weren't anything to write home about.<br>It wasted my time and my money watching this. I am disappointed as I have always been a fan of The Cat In the Hat but the movie was terrible. I got it as a gift from my husband and was let down within 10 minutes of the film. My Newhews loved it though but not my little niece she was scared! I know it could be hard to make an entertaining movie for the whole family off of a childrens book, but they could have made the movie alot better whithout all the dirty jokes and adult content. My daughter didn't know what anything meant half the time. Our children are not perverted and don't understand perverted thoughts and actions. There shouldn't be a movie rated PG for children with such disgusting and dusturbing content. Send this movie to the garbage and leave it there. There are way better movies that children and adults can watch together and actualy enjoy together such as Finding Nemo or Brother Bear!
