In the book, and in the cartoon movie, this is a story of the Grinch, a hermit who does not understand the joys of Christmas and and is moved by the who's ability to celebrate and be happy with just each other, and is accepted freely into the celebration despite his behavior.
The movie, while it does have some funny scenes, completely throws it out the window, instead, the Grinch is bitter from a childhood of torment at the hands of the whos, and even gives them a second chance when asked to, only to have it thrown in his face and again publicly humiliated and mocked, the act of 'stealing' Christmas becomes an act of revenge.
Although dressed up like a comedy, the fact is, The Grinch is a far darker, and deeply hurtful film, treating bullying, and abuse of another for being different as a joke. holywood's taste for drama just went a few strokes too far. The movie added a few extra things, but that made it even better. I thought that it was funny, and cute, and intriging. ThE Grinch has always been my favorite Christmas story, I watch the old cartoon every year. The movie was terrific. Jim Carrey is a superb actor, and he is what made the grinch a lovable green fuzzball. If you think that this movie ^*#$ed, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It is just exploding with humor but it also has its sad moments. I think that kids can relate to the grinch because they themselves may have been alienated in school because of how they look but in the end they learn that it's not about how you look, but the size of your heart! This movie is worth buying and showing to your children. It teaches them the true meaning of christmas in that you don't need lights, decorations and presents to have a good time. Jim Carey is PERFECT, Ron Howard's directing is phenomenal, and the cinematography is excellent. I'm not a Jim Carey fanatic, and don't watch kid movies - my other recent favorites are "Road to perdition" and "White Oleanders" to give you an idea of where I'm coming from. What a fascinating entertaining movie for the kids.It is also a movie for a fun time to spend with your family. This movie was great because it had sad and funny and great action times. It has a little bit of everything. I liked because it didn't tell every single detail of the book it had some unique scenes that one can and can't imagine. One of the great scenes is when they accept the Grinch as a person and not as a monster. The Grinch is played by the famous comedian who starred in The Mask, Jim Carrey. The extremely adorable girl who played Cindy Lou Who was a little six year old girl named Taylor Momsen. "Taylor has a simple kind of honesty and a wonderful spirit" said Ron Howard, the director. Their was also another adorable star in the movie who played Max, she a girl not a boy, her name was Kelly. She came from an animal shelter. The first thing I felt when I saw it was WOW this a great movie! I give it TWO THUMBS UP!!!! Was this review helpful?
