Date  Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  DAY OF THE DEADPosted: 4/17/2008A review of Day of the Dead by RETSOF1 I watched the remake and was quite impressed. The gore factor was toned down to acceptable levels, and the action was good.
What I really appreciated that even though this movie was also shot in Bulgaria of all places, the production did not go cheap and use non-USA materials, vehicles, and guns. Which you see in almost all the SciFi specials on saturday nights.
Ving Rhames is getting a bit old to be considered an Army captain, but he still pulled it off. I had trouble believing the main character a Corporal would be given such huge responsibilities by this officer, seemed like every other soldier was a Private.
I liked the military installation in the last of the movie. Probably a Bulgarian missile launch post, but someone had taken the trouble to make it look U.S.A. As I said before, this was appreciated. Too many of these movies are so technically bad it hurts to watch them (don't get me started on some of the plots, who OK's Sci Fi channel movies for production? They must be on something pretty powerful!!)
The heroine was superb, though they obviously cut out why she was gun shy in the beginning of the movie. Seems she got over it pretty quick. One big fault I had was all the people in the hospital dying all at once and coming back like someone flipped a switch.
Even though the genre of a laboratory experiment that causes a plague is overdone, people should be concerned about what does happen in those labs around the world.
One question which was not answered was, since this was a airborne virus, why had it not spread beyond Leadville, Colorado.
Overall though, great zombie movie, worth seeing. Was this review helpful?
