It was scary,creepy ,super funny (intentionally and unintentionally) and an action packed roller coaster ride. Anyone who says this movie didnt give them chills is crazy. I hadnt seen the reviews before I went to see this movie so maybe that was a good thing because I didnt know what to expect. From the opening scene when the little girl shows up in the doorway and the resulting frenzied infection of Ana (Sarah Polleys husband) this movie had my heart beating fast. And some of you say this movie was not scary! Thats a lot of bull. The Director does a great job with the lighting and setting depicting all the dark shadows with the characters (and viewers) not knowing whats around the corner or in the dark watching you....waiting. Is it a zombie? Is it the Dog or just one of your fellow mall inhabitants survivors?
I had seen 28 days later so I had seen Zombies moving fast before but something about the way these zombies moved and the frenzied way they went after their meals(humans, lol) was just exciting. The story line might not have been the strongest but I like the camraderie that eventually developed between the characters. If the ending in the extra credits was a bit confusing it still didnt detract from the impact of what came before in the movie. I watch this movie every single time I come accross it on cable. This along with JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 are two of my all time favouriate horror movies.

This movie is seriously an awesome remake of the original. Not too many remakes are any good anyway, but this one is the best one ever. The reason this movie is so awesome is because of the zombies. Zombies are always cool. Zombie movies are always awesome. It always gives you a rush when you watch a zombie movie, so thats enough for my five star rating. But, in reality, this movie just deserves all the greatness that it accomplished. And in all honesty, this movie accomplished so much too. It succeeded in a great story. It succeeded in being scary. It succeeded so much that I cant go through the list. But the way this movie should be seen is when youre home alone. And dont even try to watch this movie in the dark either, its too scary. However, every person that I've talked and has seen this movie, zombie fan or not, loved it.
It's just a fact that this movie scary as hell. Simply the concept that flesh eating, undead creatues could throw the world into total chaos is horrifying! Ok, the plot is lacking, but I've enver seen a zombie movie who's plot isn't. The plot: zombies take over the world, some survivors hide out in a mall and try not to die as they're stuck in a building surroudned by things that want to eat them. Badly.
So, why is it good? Well: Great acting, cool effects, and for a zombie movie- very realistic. If you watch carefully, the zombies progessively decay throughout the movie, skin literally falling off of their bones by the end. And there's the fact it's just plain scary, sure to give you tons of jumps. And the best part: THE ZOMBIES DON'T CRAWL! ^.^ When they want to eat you, they sprint after you, making this movie more than "Oh, a zombie- Watch out. Oh, nervermind, it's crawling. Just walk away casually." Note: it is gorey, but it's a horror movie, don't expect a pretty field of daisies.
On top of the actual movie, the DVD has tons of cool extra stuff, like behind the scenes looks at the movie, and also featurettes that add to the story. You actually get to find out how the mysterious guy on the gun store roof had been living... Lil creepy, but whatever. So, to conclude this hopefully helpful review, watch this movie! You'll love it...

The best part of the movie was when I saw the credits. Who camps out in a mall and then develops a relationship with a scrawny guy on the roof of another building. HOW GAY IS THAT??? The speed provides a tool for the film makers to scare the s*** out of you. The old version is more laughable. The characters do not need fear the zombie for its speed. They often are seen dodging or teasing zombies in close unprotected proximities.
For those who complain about the speed, saying rigor mortis should make them slow and stiff? Well rigor mortis is caused by chemicals in the muscles. It starts about 5 hrs after death and goes away a few days later. Until we actually study a real zombie, most interpretations seem good enough for me.
Overall the story was a bit weak, but the opening action scene was fantastic, with moments of good action and excitement here and there throughout the remainder of the movie. The original certainly has it appeal and will remain a classic, but the effects and horror in the new version really takes the zombie movie to a new level.
To make this movie better? Well I think it needed a somewhat better story. The ending with the buses could have used more work.
Bonus Features on DVD: Very nicely done. They show some new angles in the story and certainly add to the movie as a whole, making it weel worth the DVD purchase. Hope that helps. Got home, turned on the tube, turned out the lights and was greatly dissapointed. The first ten minutes were the most exciting. Everything else became a slow drip into boredom hell. Am I so desensitized that horror flicks don't scare me, or is it that horror flicks have just become a quick way to make a buck. Why can't they spend the time and effort making a horror flick like they do on the movies that win Oscars? The New Dawn of the Dead #%*(ed. Big time. Was this review helpful? I haven't even seen this movie yet. I missed it in theaters and called Block Buster every week beginning in July looking for it until I found out it is released on DVD in October. Ok but here's my thing, people are annoyed the Zombie's run as fast as humans. Why? Humans that can't outrun zombie's that crawl like snails is pretty idiotic. So, ya, to make it more realistic... let them run as fast as humans. At least I know I wont be muttering that everyone deserves to die when they can simply RUN away. :) Was this review helpful? Unlike the original Dawn of the Dead, this movie had lots of action, good acting, and intentional comedy. George Romero's version really didn't have any of them. All it had was unintentional comedy.
