Not just a concert movie, but a movie about life and music. In a strange way, Dave makes the music and musicians come to life more than any film since A Hard Days Night. The pace is perfect, interspersing clips from the performance with Daves labor of love to create the performance. And Dave is so funny that he keeps the movie going even when people are relaxing. If you like hip hop and Dave Chapelle, you will not be disappointed. And if you smoke out before hand, youll be blown away!!! Was this review helpful? If you are looking for comedy, forget it. Chappelle, has a couple one liners that are funny but that is it.
I would add more, but this movie isnt worth the effort. Life is too short, go see something more enteraining.

The artists obviously bring life to the low-budget project. I cant get enough of seeing them on stage, and desperately wishing I would have been there.
And I agree with collette66 about seeming like Im the only one in the audience that gets it. Everyone else just kinda sits there, may quietly tap their feet. But thats about it. Me? Im singing rapping along, bobbing my head, damn near about to burst out of my seat. lol I cant wait to go see it again over spring break this week!!! Was this review helpful? I wish Dave couldve came to MY TOWN with those tickets!! That was the concert of the century!!! Anyone who was actually there, is blessed!! MAN!!
This movie was very funny and entertaining with its HELLIFYINGLY unprecidented-combination of concert perfomers!! Jill Scott, Mos Def, Common, The Fugees... I mean, man, this was definitely a severe case of Top-of-the-line-artists-overkill!!!! It was soooooo much for me to digest!! DAMN!! I couldnt sit still!! If youre a TRUE hip-hop fan, then you wouldve reeeeeeally appreciated the fact that Dave dug up Big Daddy Kane!! And Big Daddy was tight, too! And, I really give Dave mad props for being BLACK enough to bring out DEAD PREZ!! Most Black entertainers would be too SCARY to even acknowledge their tight-ass revolutionary rhymes!! I love you Dave, youre the BLACKEST!! DEAD-PREZ ROCKZ!!
I also love the fact that Dave gave tickets to old white people, in an attempt to bring together the races and show that EVERYBODY LOVES DAVE CHAPPELLE!!!
Go see this movie a FEW times, it DEFINITELY will NOT be a wasted purchase!! Ive seen it twice so far and I beg you, when it comes out on DVD, DONT BUY IT ON BOOT-LEG!!! Go see it .....NOW!!! RIGHT NOW!!!

The LIVE music and sprinkles of comedy by Dave made it a great experience. He managed to provide quality entertainment through music and comedy, but yet INSPIRE us with a message. And I couldnt sit still in my seat for over an hour! The first performer Kanya West sang his single Jesus Walks with John Legend on vocals and the Central State University marching band on beats and it was INCREDIBLE! Each artist did an awesome job of bringing excitement and energy to the stage unparalleled to any Hip Hop or Rap performance Ive EVER seen! (IF they performed like this all the time, thered be more sold out shows!) It was also great to hear music with a message that normally isnt played on the aire waves or TV stations EVER! This is what we need more of instead of this GARBAGE Rap music they play!!!
I left the theatre wanting much more and wanting to goto NY for a block party experience.
Best Performace goes to Dead Prez for me! And Dave was funny as usual and his timing was impeccable! Im getting the CD and of course DVD should be awesome! Was this review helpful? Sign In 8 out of 12 users found this helpful wonderful and creativePosted: 3/6/2006A review of Dave Chappelle's Block Party by porsha9862 what can i say about block party funny, joyful, proud. when we went to see block party i felt like i was there. every on in the movie thearter were jaming right along with the people in the movie. it showed that different culters can get together in BROOKLYN and have a wonderful time just being who they are. dave chapell really gave back to the community by just doing something as simple as a block party because it shows that he never forgot were he came from. and the artist that came out really did they thing and made EVERY one in the movie thearther and the movie feel really good about them selfs. i would go see the movie again i a heart beat. because it wasnt just funny it was real, real people not acting, but just being themselves. Dave is a straight fool and I appreciated him bringing this to the screen. I was mad that more people werent in the aisles rocking to the Fugees, Common, Kanye, Mos, Dead Prez, Badu, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap. It was amazing!!! Seeing my hometown represented in such a positive light (I lived in the brown buiding behind where the band practiced) was appreciated greatly. Big up Dave, Big up Brooklyn!!! Im not sure about you but I associate Dave Chappelle with comedy first and foremost. For me, ?uestlove (The Roots drummer) was the star of the show. That cat can bang. Sign In 8 out of 9 users found this helpful a must see docurockuPosted: 3/5/2006A review of Dave Chappelle's Block Party by curiousgeorge06691 no doubt this docurocku block party should receieve an academy nod for the 2006 academy award for best documentary. dave and his crew, performers, performances and the everyday people included in this once in a lifetime musically charged comedically sprinkled event is a compelling and compassionate example of the love and good vibes that exists in all of us. how this man was unafraid to bring to our conciousness the reality of being, and engaging in the total human experience of human love...love for your fellow man, and love of life and taking what is often culturally misunderstood when it comes to the black experience, and bringing that awareness to the big screen is beyond corageous, its necessary.

The best moment of the movie and concert was captured well, the when Dave introduced the Fugees and they hit the stage, we went nuts! There had been some rumors and people were talking some once we got off the buses but that moment was electric.
