Date ![]() Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Yes, this movie is dark and does not have a happy ending. Having said that, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Fans of Kurt Russell should consider it a must see as I felt this was his best performance in quite a while. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 6/25/2003A review of Dark Blue by BlindHacker I rented this movie yesterday. I must admitted that I was surprised about the facts gathered together prior five days earlier before the riot.Kurt did an excellent job as a veteran cop who juggled with his ethics of codes, family issues and a rookie. To be honest, I hate the character that Kurt played. That guy must be very sick in his head. I guess he chosed the evil ways and at least he cracked it out to public.Very sticky characters such as rookie, his affair, boss and the rest of people. I mean Kurt, a Rookie, Chief, and other phony guy who charmed all the way to end.I'm glad that I can be able to understand the whole corruption police system that affected America. It does happen everday in the real world. But I did enjoyed the movie. Thumbs up!Your longtime moviegoerJason Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful ";Dark Blue"; makes ";Training Day"; look like a Disney movie. It incorporates ";edge of your seat"; fictional storyline and real-life events that inflamed LA in the early nineties. Its a shame that this movie isn't in the top five in ticket sales. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful They were right when they compared this movie to ";LA Confidential"; and ";Training Day";. It has elements from both movies in it. I'm about to make some people mutter under their breath but I thought Kurt Russell was better in this movie then Denzel Washington was in ";Training Day";. Mr. Washington by far did an extraordinary job in that movie but he played a bad cop period. He had to act bad and no more. In this movie Mr. Russell plays a bad cop who wrestles with what he has become. He struggles with what he feels is wrong but plays the soldier as he is so often referred to. The movie takes place just before the Rodney King trial and has a pretty straight forward plot. It's the acting that puts it above the rest. While searching for two men who commit a robbery Mr. Russell and his partner begin to come to terms with what they are. His partner, a man with a good heart who is slipping into the same pit, looks for a way to redeem himself. Mr. Russell plays it different not really looking for redemption. He just goes with it until he is betrayed. This is where the fine acting comes into play. At the end when he gives his big speech you can see the two sides of him merge. While he makes no apologies for his deeds of the past even to the extent of praising the not guilty verdict in the King trial he then condemns the man who helped turn him into what he has become. Here is a man who cleans his soul with one hand while patting himself on the back with the other. I feel this was some of the best acting by Mr. Russell I have ever seen. I would love to see him honored with an Oscar nomination next year for his portrayal. The movie has plenty of action and keeps you entertained but I recommend you go for the acting. Thanks for your time. Was this review helpful? It's either you love it or you hate it. Some people are just not ready for the raw truth, and Dark Blue delivers it unflinchingly. This is a very powerful movie, Training Day cannot compare. Dark Blue is very grim, and can be quite hard to absorb at times, but it is also honest to its characters (a rare find these days in Hollywood). Kurt Russell easily delivers a great performance - he is totally believable, and although I hated his character, I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him; and yes, he deserves an Oscar, but he'll probably never get it, because the film does not fit ";Hollywood standards";. Of course the movie has its weak moments (which is why I took away 1 star), like the marital scenes and the bloated ending - I think the concept of the ending could have remained the same (Eldon just didn't care anymore about anything), but done on a smaller and more realistic scale. That aside, this is one of the best cop movies ever made. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I can't believe that movies like this one still makes it to the theaters. I din't mind having to read between the lines and see through the smoke of how blacks were being portrayed. What actually bothered me was the thought of how many Americans feel this same way about blacks, but are too afraid and cowardly don't speak their minds or say what they want to say. It is clear to see that America is indeed afraid of what the future outcome of this society is beginning to look like. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Really shows the fine line that Police officers have to walk, especially in a big city. One day youre solving the problem, the next you are the problem. Kurt Russell gives a very good performance, his best work in recent memory...other acting is good, nothing spectacular. Overall a very good movie showing Police, their family issues, job issues, morals, corruption, and just how far someone can go before breaking. Was this review helpful? There is no doubt that he is struggling with doing the ";right thing"; in this drama. His emotional shifts draw the viewer into his dilemma and there is a feeling that whatever his decision it will be a true blue one. This guy is still HOT. The rest of the cast rise to the occassion and it is a great reel. Was this review helpful? I enjoy Kurt Russell, but his role in this movie places him in a tight spot, and could damage his future in acting. Things of the past, should be left in the past. The movie ";Color's"; was bad enough. I hate to see what happens after this movie. Was this review helpful? It is gritty and believable due to the fine performances by Lolita Davidovich and other supporting cast. The story is well plotted, the dialogue real, and the ending satisfying. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful This is one of the best(if not the best) movies to come out this year so far. Kurt Russel gives the greatest acting perfromance of his carrer in this original crime drama about the crooked cops of the L.A.P.D. It uses the Rodney King trial as the backdrop (and an immpressive one at that). There is not a better movie out this week. (although old school was mighty funny!) So go ahead and see this gem of a film! Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
