The best adaptation of this story I have ever seen. The acting is exquisite, sets are beautiful, and dialogue is deliciously smart. -not confusing- So glad I saw this.

Most images we have of this century and decade, (around 1760-1770) are still photos. This film gives a taste of the "what might have occurred" in these quiet naughty times. Wardrobe covered almost everything and rendezvous were very discrete. Pam and Tommy need not apply to this film. Secrets were power. A very "dangerous liason" which occured while filming was between Michelle Pfeiffer and John Malkovich (who was married to someone else at the time). Michelle thought John would leave his wife for her. Sorry Michelle. John thought his wife would keep him after the affair. Sorry John!

Probably on of the best directed, acted, written and filmed movies of the past thirty years. It deserves a second and third watching.

If you're into action, this isn't your movie, but if you love really good drama this is it. It had a great storyline and the acting was superb.
