I heard about this film through a band that I really love. Indeed, Ive heard Bjorks music for the first time through them, as well. Dancer in the Dark was my first experience with Bjorks music and acting, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The movie, just because its shot with a digital camera, gives a feeling like youre seeing it out of your own eyes Selmas devotion to her son- not giving the money she has earned to anything but towards her sons operation, not even to save herself from death- is extremely touching the wanting to escape from her real life, from her on coming blindness, and doing this by music and dance is beautiful Kathys wanting to help and keeping Selma anchored to earth (at times) very endearing and the overall performance, superb. Not many films make me cry, but this was definitely the first one to do so. Heartily recommended if you like drama that combines eccentric and uinque music and dance.

Dancer in the Dark is a wonderfully touching movie. Selma is the epitome of selflessness; as she helps those around her despite the negative consequences her choices bring to her. It is a well acted and well directed movie. The pleasant musical sequences in Selma’s imagination contrast her troublesome life and at the same time give the viewer a false sense of hope. The soundtrack written and performed by Bjork is a sampling of her best work, and is a compliment to the movie. I really enjoyed Dancer in the Dark it is a great film and would suggest everyone give it a chance.

A illuminating study of a mother's selflessness where her child is concerned, and at a great sacrifice to herself. Haunting music draws one into the twist of fate that gives her son the view on the world that he would not have were it not for her courage and desperation.

bjork really shines in this movie and the music is amazing. catherine deneuve could have worn a mask on her face but her grace seeps through. what a lady! when i watched it i had not read what it was about. most of the audience sobbed like little children. even the most cold hearted person would empathize with bjork's character. it's mainly about love and sacrifice. it is a very humbling experience, and ultimately depressing, but like ";The House of Mirth"; it has a strong woman as the lead character.recommended!
