Dan's 12 year old daughter insists that she has found love in only 3 days. Dan explains that it is just infatuation, but later realizes that love can be found in 3 days when he meets his brother’s girlfriend. I actually vomited 6 times in my mouth while watching this. It is cliché after cliché, the family home on the ocean, people playing charades, a family talent show, to a game of football. I just throw up again thinking about. If you have no kids or relatives and imagine how great it would be then this is the movie for you, but if you want to keep your lunch down avoid at all costs. If I paid for this movie with dog poop I would have asked for my poop back. Was this review helpful? My husband and I are amazed at the plethora of fairly good reviews on it. How did so many movie critics let this one slide? So basically- Dan the main character, has a conversation with a woman in a bookstore and from there on- sh is he ONE. Of course- she is deflty flirty with him from the beginning despite her intense relationship (as indicated by her going home with him to meet his family- and all the talk about how great she is by her spposed boyfriend. Oh and how about the scene where the whole family sings songs about "pigface" ruthie! Who is hotter than any other actresss in the film. Weird faily and strange selfish characters with the emoltional depth of a ceral box action figure. Was this review helpful? I did not want to see it.
But I'm soooo glad I did!!! When you forget the people you're watching are acting...you know it's good. I also bought the great soundtrack!
SEE IT!

The family is hilarious and reminds me of my summers at the beach with mine. We had the annual "Gong Show" which was one of the highlights..........just like in the film. The cast is marvelous - Steve Carrel is one of THE most natural actors around today. Have been a fan of Juliette for quite a few years and they definitely had that "Spark" in this film. Would highly recommend.........HIGHLY! Was this review helpful? I don't even know how to describe how great it made me feel; I guess, warm and fuzzy inside. Once I exited the movie theatre I wanted to go dance in the rain or something really cool. Maybe go kiss somebody haha. Anyway, a must see, but does anybody have any idea why there's this little Asian girl there? I mean, is she adopted? Was this review helpful? From making him sleep in the "special" room to the way everyone knew each other inside and out, the family traditions, everything! This is just great!

No other movie has made me laugh and cry and feel wonderful about life! It's a credit to a wonderful script, terrific casting, GREAT acting and deft direction.
The director didn't go for cheap laughs or milk the situation for all the potential "jokes." Instead, they kept it real and earnest and in the process drew the viewer into the hearts and minds of the characters. There were plenty of laughs, but not at the expense of real feeling.
The movie and portrayal resonated with me. . . a widow with two teenage sons. . . caught between the lost love of a lifetime and the fear that there will never be another love. And being overprotective of the kids and a little disconnected . . . just enough that the family worries. Carrel is a master at conveying the vulnerability of the heart while struggling heroically to carry on.
Laugh, cry, smile, shake your head, and sigh. . . but go see it.
