Crimson Tide is easily one of the top Submarine movies of all time, along with Das Boot and K-19. With a completely believable plot, especially in the context of mid-1990’s Russian ultra-nationalism (few people in the west now remember who Vladimir Zhirinovsky is) and superb writing, I found this movie fascinating right from the start. While the plot sets an excellent stage, it is how Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington use that stage that really puts this movie in a class above other popular submarine movies (such as Hunt for Red October).

The performances are simply riveting, with quick and believable dialog and technically solid representations of the operations and interiors of an Ohio class, Trident SSBN. Of course, minor liberties are taken by Hollywood, but overall, this is an engrossing drama that portrays a truly scary scenario. Put this right at the top of your list of sub dramas.
This is a seriously freaky movie, where a missile submarine gets orders to fire its warheads. Now the captain (Hackman) and his new XO, (Washington), go head to head when the boat receives a message fragment that has to do with the launch. Both men go to extrodinary lengths to do what they think is right with the interpertaion of the message, which makes the suspense of the movie totally boil over. Finally, the resolution of the film is as it should be, and I simply have to say that this is a fabulous film of what can possibly happen with the kind of destructive power that is able to be unleashed upon the world.

I first watched Crimson tide because I am a huge fan of Gene Hackman, and I think his performance in the film justifies my opinion. His screen presence is awesome and nobody else could have the portrayed the part of captain Ramsey with such conviction. Washington was good also, but I think Hackman brought out the best in him and without his presence, the film would have sank to the bottom. From start to finish, the film built in tension and the relationship between Ramsey and Hunter developed in a fascinating and chilling way. To summarise, an absolute must see film. Hackman is at his brutal best and fans of his will be overawed by his mesmeric performance.

To start off I'd like to say that this is one of the greatest movies of all time! In this review I'd like to mention the score to the movie! This movie's score was written/composed by world famous composer Hans Zimmer. This movie is considered by anyone who listens to it, to be THE greatest soundtrack of all time!!! The movie's score delivers a VERY powerful combination of orchestra and synthesizers! Most of the soundtrack is based on a tense and suspenseful feeling inside of the music! The main theme of the movie is what REALLY blows you away! I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS SOUNDTRACK! i don't lie! It's worth every bit of money you put into it!! To find out more about the composer (Hans Zimmer) you can search for his name at the top of the screen!
