Although the theme has been used before, I thought this was the funniest, and best acted scenerio. Nia and Toni were great, very funny, and truly sincere. David Duchovny as Jeff was awesome...the best scene he was in was when he and Nia were at a bar...you've really gotta see this film. (I've seen it twice and have already pre-ordered the DVD!!) Ther are a few funny parts, but only about two. the rest of this movie is all about this ditsy lil bitches dressing in drag and one of them is #^!(ing ugly as dog! She made me wanna throw up(it was tha blonde one). The other one was ok, she was the less ditsy of tha two and did a much better job. Tha point is don't waste your hard earned money renting this movie when it comes out, if one of ur freinds has it, borrow it from them, it is an ok movie for tha few funny scenes it does have. Great acting, good music, excellent costumes. Very well produced. Good story line also. So go see it, sit back and laugh for a couple of hours. Remember, cross dressers are people too. There was a whole lot of talent in it, and some great songs. The versatility of the actresses was wonderful, and their wide-eyed innocence in the gay world was a hoot. To say this movie is bad would be generous, unless the definition of bad is least funny, worst written, and most horribly acted film anyone could subject themselves to. Fortunetly, my wife, who is pregnant, got sick in the middle of the movie, giving me the opportunity to witness a more enjoyable scene of her throwing up in a theater trash can. Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful  The Nia Vardalos Show!Posted: 4/27/2004A review of Connie and Carla by RascalPgh This movie is an extremely poor copy of "Some Like It Hot" and "Victor/Victoria." It features 2 entertainers who witness a murder and then go in drag to escape the murderers. It was funny with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, with 2 girls pretending to be men pretending to be women, it isn't! Shades of V/V on the last part. Also, with talents like Toni Colette and David Duchovny, this movie should have been a hit. But alas, when it starred, was written and directed buy, and produced by Nia Vardalos, guess who got the juiciest part and lines? Nia, Nia, Nia, that's all you see in this movie! Granted, she is an exceptional writer/comic, but her role exceded the others. Homophobia was an under-theme and was done tastefully with the David Duchovny character. You had to hate his fiancee when she called his cross-dressing brother a FREAK and the audience did! A brief appearance by Debbie Reynolds was a memorable highlight to this tedious film. It had a few (just a few) good comedic moments, but Nia should have made Toni and David equals in the script department, or else call the film just Connie or was she Carla or who really cares?
