This seems very plausible. Perhaps CLOVERFIELD -- with it's DVD cover portraying a headless Statue of Liberty, and the surrounding countryside being devastated -- was subliminally inspired by the 9/11 attacks on New York City. It is so easy to find the "monstrous" in a real monster, (ie: maurauding dinasaur). Results -- destruction of cities and lives -- is the same. Hopefully, others will see the simularities, and the horrible results as portrayed in films like "GODZILLA", and "CLOVERFIELD". and the real-life terror can be stopped! Was this review helpful? The movie was too short.
And the random footage that kept popping up in the movie was really annoying.
I can see almost NOONE liked this Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/11/2008A review of Cloverfield by pacritic I am glad I only spent $1 to rent this...this was one of the most annoying movies I have seen...definitely did not meet any expectations that the trailer gives you. If you want a Sci-Fi thriller, it's not this movie. The biggest disappointment was that the ENTIRE movie was thru the view of this character filming everything with his video camera (which the only impressive thing was that his battery lasted long enough for him to film from the late evening of the one night into the morning of the next day!). Even my kids were annoyed with the movie and we fast-forwarded thru a lot of the movie to just find out what would happen end the end. The characters are lame...one, who wants to risk his and his friends' lives to go into the heart of the town to rescue a woman he had already dumped after sleeping with...another character who can manage to run all over Manhattan(?) filming all of this chaos and can continue filming the friends(?) in his group as they are attacked by some of these baby creatures...just no realistic substance. I think I was just really annoyed with the entire picture being shot from this guy's camera. If you're looking for a good Sci-Fi thriller, then watch Aliens, the Mist, the Fog, or even Lost in Space...I wouldn't recommend watching any more than the trailer of this movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/2/2008A review of Cloverfield by R3V0LUTii0N4RY This movie was great! True, it was a monster movie reminiscent of Godzilla and whatnot, but it was truly different than "HACKER SLASHER 19: TRAPPED IN A HOSPITAL!" type of stuff the general public has come to adore.
The biggest problem apparently happens to be the camera. Many people have complained about motion sickness during the picture because of the camera. First of all, I, for one, don't see why. A group of friends and I watched the movie together in theater and not one of us got sick or even felt sick in the slightest. Sure, it was a bit difficult at times to see what was happening, but a minute or two later we'd find out.
Second, being in that first person sort of view really drew me into the story. It was much better than the random camera angles Hollywood usually uses in a movie. Regardless, if you even paid attention to the trailer, you could tell it was shot like the Blair Witch Project, so you should know what to expect.
The monster itself was intriguing, to say the least. In the beginning, it was a bit amorphous, so it looked like a blob with a head, really. But throughout the entire film, it pretty much changed shapes. It went from a blob, to a crab thing, to what looked like a mantis, to some amphibious dinosaur creature. Perhaps it was only the times and angles that you saw the monster from, but nonetheless it was interesting to see what would happen next.
The tiny monsters falling off the larger one was something I didn't exactly see coming. It was a good sort-of twist and created suspense in occasional parts. Knowing these things are the size of a dog and can make you explode if they bite you is definitely hair-raising.
During the movie, there was almost nothing of a plot, though. But a story of just sheer terror, confusion, and survival really makes up for that.
This is one of the few movies I would watch again and again and I recommend it to anyone who wants something a little different. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 6/27/2008A review of Cloverfield by jammin9450 Well......
Negatives:
1.) Shaky camera will make you sick. The camera man had the camera in his mouth when filming.
2.) No explanation for where the mosters came from and why they were in new york
3.) Why the crap was it called cloverfield?
4.)There was one part where that one girl blew up....yeahhh....the monster scratched her....and she freakin blew up....who does that? And youd almost miss it cus the camera was shaky
5.)The monsters were entertaining.
6.)This guys brother dies and he doesnt even seem phased.....but hes willing to get all his friends killed by going back to find his girlfriend or something
Positives:
couldnt think of anything. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 6/1/2008A review of Cloverfield by leonsls The start was a bit slow, but then it picked up and began to catch my attention.
What bothered me the most:
1. These people are running for their lives and yet they are worried about filming everything like they were storm chasers or war correspondants. Be real. These are "normal" people. Drop the the ****ing camera and run. Some personalized footage would be okay but to do the whole movie....
2. NOTHING was resolved. From the looks of it at the end, the only thing that survived was the camera. Hell of a battery. They might as well have hung out a "To Be Continued" sign.
3. Now the are saying there may not even be a sequel to resolve ANYTHING.
Of course if there isn't a sequel, I won't be tempted to waste my money. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/27/2008A review of Cloverfield by mother1235 This film left nothing entertaining about it, poor filming, little plot, all you wondering what the hell! sorry this was just bad, bad and a total waste of money all the way around. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/21/2008A review of Cloverfield by rikitikitovey This was the biggest waste of an hour and a half of my life ever. This movie is basically Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla (taking the WORST parts of both). Please save yourself the agony and don't waste your time. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/7/2008A review of Cloverfield by RomeroZombie this movie is terrible, they never even explained anything at the end. How dare any of the critics put George Romero's Diary of the Dead in the same category of this HUGE disappointment. I am a horror movie lover and this was just retarded. Filmed as a home movie but very choppy and plot holes out the ying yang! Rent this do not buy it or you will have wasted your $. J.J. has downgraded his talent in this one. I tried and watched with an open mind but only about 3 scenes were worth it. No character development and the extra scenes and commentary explained more than the actual movie. What a piece of crap and want to sue J.J. for 1 hour and 24 minutes of my life wasted, I could have watched anything by George Romero and had a better night. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/5/2008A review of Cloverfield by Marine8089 This movie is one of the very worst. If you liked Blair witch project you might like it. It is shot through a video camera so you are looking at the ground and at peoples feet. Gave me and my date a major headache watching this. If I could give a negative 5 stars I would have. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/4/2008A review of Cloverfield by Bobb232 I liked the movie. I liked the way it was filmed. I liked the cast. I liked the creature. I hated the fact we never found out what or where the creature was from. Is it only me or does anyone else keep thinking, "Why was it named Cloverfield?....What was Cloverfield?" What did I miss that explained the title? I would have rated this movie a 3-4 but because I feel cheated and confused about the title I give it a 2 at the most. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/3/2008A review of Cloverfield by Chocholoco_4_eva This movie $@#%ed...it moved so much, it made you practically sick, because the movement was so much it made you dizzy. You couldn't pay attention to it becaue it moved so much. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 5/2/2008A review of Cloverfield by Badhaggis3 Possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Its not about the "Monster" its about a bunch of young people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. This is The Blair Witch Project regurgitated. Oh, and the "Monster"? Thats the Rancor monster from Star Wars with a tail added; no more, no less. My advice...Run away screaming like the folks in this movie did. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 4/27/2008A review of Cloverfield by bigpoppypudnugget i was sooo scared i actually pooped a nugget of dung into my shorts during the film. then i watched it again and again i defecated a nugget of poo. speaking of poo nuggets, that's what this garbage movie was. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 4/26/2008A review of Cloverfield by blue51 I rented this movie and watched it, and the beggining was crap, I mean the beggining was boring. So when the attack started it was cool until the end. But I like the part where they're in a helicopter and the monster jumps on it and is starting to crash down the helicopter. But the ending *($@ed, but i'm not going to spoil it for you, but overall, this movie was about a group of people are having a party, and then a monster that looked like a half-bug, half-alien, half-dragon, and half-dinosaur mixed together is attacking the New York City, and the monster kills a lot of people, but you can see the monster, but you don't get a clear picture until the end, because at the end, you can see a clear picture of the monster, but it's kind of like a movie within a movie just like the Blair Witch Project, but if you're one of those people who liked The Blair witch Project but not the ending, you're going to feel the same way with this. But then there's goimg to be a sequel to this movie, so there's going to be a Cloverfield 2 in 2009. So this is why I give it two stars. (**) Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
