Wonderful womens film, showing the true strengths women have when they acknowledge their own truth. Loved the relationships formed by every age represented in this film. Also shows the vulnerability of men, who hide their weaknesses in relationships with women. And people say, Its a mans world. The comedy comes from it. Giving the role of a wandering musician to Johnny Depp -- True type casting.

I knew nothing about this movie before I watched it. You can't imagine the tug on my heart when I first saw Johnny Depp on the river boat. His resemblance to my first husband was shocking. It must be the hair being pulled back or something I was excited to see and hear him play his guitar. I would like to know if he has any music recorede that might be available.

When I rented this film, only one thing was in my mind when I saw the cover: Johnny Depp. But as soon as I watched the movie, I realize that his role played only one part in an ensemble of excellent acting. It was delightful and joyful to see, and the quaint French village made me feel cozy and warm. I loved Johnny Depp as an Irish gypsy (he probably is the most convincing actor ever to do British accents), and the rest of the cast truly did an outstanding job. A beautiful film, overall.

Chocolat is a wonderful and stunning portrait of how each of these characters affects eachothers lives, in France, during the 1950's. Juliette Binoche is an incredibly radiant actress and her acting excudes through the screen as you watch her. The director, as well as the actors, did a wonderful job of capturing the innocence of each character in thier own worlds, no matter what sort of "sin" they are beleived to commit. Even if the film hadn't been so well done, the town in which they lived in would've made me love the movie just as much. The scenery is absolutley gorgeous, and I very much fantasize about living thier amongst all the amazing towns people and the tranquility everyday! I also must say that Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, and Lena Olin all did a marvelous job. I Loved this movie and could watch it a thousand times before getting even the least bit tired of it. So it give it 5 starz!!

This is one of my all time favourite films. Juliette Binoche is perfect as the radical woman who shakes up the quiet little french village with her Chocolaterie.

Alfred Molina and Lena Olin both give fabolous performances, and as always Judi Dench was excellent.

Johnny Depp.... what more can I say? Can this man do any wrong? (with the exception of that hellish The Ninth Gate).

My only problem with the story was the difference between Vianne of the book, and Vianne of the film. In the book Vianne is a Pagan, a witch. I felt the film makers chickened out of calling her a witch for fear of controversy.

Otherwise, excellent film!

I JUST SAW THIS MOVIE LESS THAN 5 MIN. AGO. I GO ON HERE TO CHECK OUT MORE INFO. I LOVED THE MOVIE AND I KNOW THIS WON'T HELP ANYONE, BUT IT'S JUST A LITTLE COMMENT ABOUT THE MOVIE. IT DEFFINENTLY DESERVED 5 GOLDEN GLOBES. JOHNNY DEPP IS MY FAVORITE ACTOR AND HE DEFFINENTLY DESERVES ALL CREDIT. HE LOOKED VERY GOOD IN THIS MOVIE (AND EVERY MOVIE HE'S IN FOR THAT MATTER).

I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES A GOOD, TOUCHING MOVIE. (IF YOU'RE HEARING THIS FROM A 12 YR. OLD THEN I THINK YOU'LL LIKE THE MOVIE.) ;)

A surprising and pleasingly different movie. Not at all what the title may seem to indicate. A wonderful period piece with romance and intrigue without the usual "in your face" vulgarity. Wonderful screenplay, great visual treat, and tremendous acting by all. I watched only for lack of anything better on the shelf and found it to be now one of my all time favorites. A must see....

“Chocolat” is a great film that appeals to all of your senses. Every actor does a great job that will not disappoint you, including Judi Dench, Lena Olin, Carrie-Anne Moss and more. Juliette Binoche is the nice and pleasant Vianne who travels from town to town with her daughter, Anouk, just as her mother did with her.She goes to a small town that revolves around Catholicism and believes in tranquility. She becomes the talk of the town when she doesn’t attend Mass and begins to make a shop out an old Rotisserie. Vianne won’t tell the mayor her plans, but when the store opens and the people find it is a chocolate shop she becomes hated by most of the citizens. Things get better and worse as time goes by. But, will she move again? This movie is fabulous! I love it and most of you will, too!

This movie is a great movie! It's filled with love, passion, faith, but most of choclate recipies that make your mouth water just looking at them. It's such a good movie. WIth quite a few talented actors and an amzing story. If you don't rate this movie 5 stars you're either trying to be funny, lying, or just plain wierd!

A movie that has become one of my all time favorites, ";Chocolat"; blends comedy, romance, and a bit of magic that somehow draws out the real human qualities in us all. The cast is superb; though Depp has never really apppealed to me as a quality actor, he sufficed for the role in which he plays ";Roux";. Juliette Binoche has been a wonderful addition to the world of acting since I saw her in ";The Unbearable Lightness Of Being";, which was released in 1988. ";Chocolat"; is a movie that makes one feel good, and can also draw one into their own personal introspection, and how they interact among others within their own lives!
