The acting was, for the most part, top notch, the cinematography seeming as though it should be in a $100 mill movie, the directing superb. But nothing... nothing... can surpass the music. This movie has--no lie--the greatest musical score I have ever heard.
I could go on and on about this movie for hours, but I'll cut it off now. The only drawback is that one has to sit through the horrible first movie, Dune, to understand the flow of this one. However, despite a higher budget, bigger stars and cheaper effects costs this movie fails to live up to its predicessor. While the first 2 hour segment covering Frank Herberts Heritic of Dune produces a mini-movie which is more riveting and scripted than the book itself, the audience will suddenly find themselves wondering what happened when they watch the second and third parts. The movie quickly looses its steam and becomes less like a journey through an foreign land and much more like a soap opera. The characters suddenly loose most of their personalities and become instead little pieces in a poorly structured web of plots as the movie makes its slow 4 hour run to its anticlimatic little explained ending. Sadly even with all the hype the producers couldn't pull a rabbit out of thier hat a second time. Was this review helpful?
