Everything from the music to the characters is well chosen and performed. Was this review helpful? Not as good as Moulin Rouge, but still great. I said the same for Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor Who knew Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger, and Catherine Zeta-Jones could sing and dance? And, of course, I LOVE Queen Latifah. This movie dazzles with the best of em! Was this review helpful? I can't believe I wasted all of the time and money watching the movie. Was this review helpful? The acting, the singing, the dancing--amazing talent surrounds this movie. Besides that, it had a great plot. There's just that something about watching the "bad" girl who's in trouble.

My favorite scene was probably at the end, when Roxie and Velma were finally onstage together. The look on their lawyer's face was absolutely classic when they pulled out the fake guns. Other such musical interludes held similar charm. I didn't, however, so much like all the racy outfits in certain songs--it wasn't quite necessary.

After watching it, I can honestly say that I wanted to act on Broadway, if only for the off-chance of someday having a part like that of the endearing Roxie Hart. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 4 users found this helpful I was frightened about how this would work as a big budget film. Was hoping that it would be made by Baz Luhrmann or at least imitating his style. It was not - but happily I can say that Chigago is slick, well produced and highly theatrical - just the way I like it! The film is visually as dark and seedy as the time Chicago is set. Catherine Zeta Jones' Velma is wicked , delightful and vampy. Roxie Hart is played by Zellweger with suitable mix of the coquette, ingenue and scheming minx. Latifah is bold and brash as Mama and Gere is exceptional as the fearless, clever Billy Flynn. Cell Block Tango is a beautifully crafted sequence and my favourite replay on the DVD. Terrific editing and one of the best actor-to-character casting ratio I have seen using the big name actors - usually reserved for indie films.
Compared to the wonderful Moulin Rouge, as a lot of other reviewers have done, is like comparing apples to oranges. See both and be impressed with each very different style of directing, editing and production. Was this review helpful? Renee did a great job to but catherine deserved the golden globe more than her. Renee is so skinny and not as pretty as catherine but she can sorta sing but can act!Richard well he did a good job but i guess any1 could ave done that. the movie was great so watch it! The novie in general had a great drama. I liked how the director shows diferent stories throughout the movie and at the end they all had plenty of thigs in common. The team of actors that were chosen to do this movie were great. They all fit in the category and made it seen all so real. CHICAGO IS THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR 2003. I'm barely 15 years old and i think this movie was all that!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This movie *^*#s! The only bright spot in this movie is richard gere and queen latifah! Renne zewellger couldn't act her way out of a paper bag! Cathering Zeta Jones was Great! My advice go see Moulin Rouge! This is a trashy over commerical piece of junk that I have seen I am glad That Rene did not win the oscar! Go Nicole! Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 12/30/2003A review of Chicago by allsmartnstuff233 I saw the first 20-30 minutes of Chicago at a relative's house and had to see the rest of the movie. I bought the soundtrack first, but accidently not the one from the movie. I had gotten the one from the movie and play. And the only song that sounds completely different was the Cell Block Tango. But I fell in love with the music (and listen to it all the time) and knew that movie had to be great. SO I bought the dvd for my Christmas present. I watched it on the computer and was a little bit disappointing, and the movie seemed too short and I was waiting for more especially after the trial but it skipped along. But I really thought it was still a great movie and even better music 'cause i love musicals (sometimes) like this one and Moulin Rouge. Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 4 users found this helpful I revived from the knocked-out condition Catherine Zeta-Jones put me in with ";All That Jazz,"; just in time to go back in that condition with John C. Reilly's ";Mr. Cellophane."; Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 4 users found this helpful Posted: 2/27/2003A review of Chicago by Rosalie861 This film is truly dazzling. Catherine Zeta Jones is amazing. Her singing and dancing talents are remarkable. Rene Zellweger is very believable as the wanna-be star. Richard Gere is surprisingly good. John C Reilly and Queen Latifah are perfect in their roles. The staging is very much live theatre-like. The editing pieces together the musical metaphors for what is happening in the plot. The music and visuals are first rate. Thank you Rob Marshall for this thoroughly entertaining film. What an absolute joy!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
