Date  Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  One good Bond FilmPosted: 12/6/2008A review of Casino Royale by Ivkkarate2 Well, I only watched this movie when it came out which was about 2 years ago and I really don't remember some of the happenings but I could tell that this movie was a good one.With action like no other and together with Poker may not be that decent but still I really liked it alot. With Quantum Of Solace already out I hope to watch it when it comes out in DVD. Was this review helpful? Through the years, 007's character has changed to an almost comic book likeness. As always, I still looked forward to giving Bond one more chance. Never say never..... Enter Daniel Craig, and Bond becomes the true Bond, perfectly described by M as a blunt instrument. NO more swishy Roger Moore, or second rate actors. This one's the real deal. The plot was a lot more complex and subtle than a lot of recent bond films, a plot that leaves you noticing new things each time you watch it. Secondly the characters outside of Bond are all well thought out and well acted. I like the fact that the film delves into the consequences on the mind of trusting no-one and killing people for a living. It's not as simple in as 'bang bang bang, bond wins again'. Thus said as a bond film it does still have its share of at the top but not quite over it action sequences. Last but not least Daniel Craig acts the role perfectly! looks the part and plays it! With only one film under his belt, one cannot compare Craig to Connery. When his time as Bond is served that comparison can be made. As films go though, this is the best Bond ever. Giving a movie so many stars because the actor is a hottie doesnt even justify a review.
Now I was as skeptical (as were many) that Daniel Craig could pull off the Bond role (regardless of his hair color). But as far as Bond goes, I would still rank Sean Connery as the best. My 2nd best is a toss-up between Daniel Craig or Timothy Dalton. They played grittier, more realistic Bonds. Then would come Pierce Brosnan, and waaay down at last would be Roger Moore. Hey, he was a terrific Simon Templar (The Saint - TV series), but was horrible as Bond.
I thought the opening black and white scene gave a great introduction into Bond getting his 007 status (and kept it short) and the chase scene in the beginning was pretty amazing (and refreshing, since it didnt use any cars).
Craig did seem stiff in some parts, but I did like the torture scene based on the fact that in all the other Bond movies, Bond is about to get tortured and then miraculously escapes....and in this one, he did have to take punishment (which explains why part of him was jaded at the end).
Alot of people complained about the poker part being too long. Well, if they had stayed with the original Bond game of Baccarat, then I would agree that would have been incredibly tedious, because hardly anyone in the U.S. could probably explain the rules. So substituting Holdem was a reasonable choice (since it is so popular today), but I would have preferred a more traditional poker game like 7 Card Stud (where bluffing, etc. come more into play).
But overall, I thought the movie was good and the grimmer Bond was more realistic. As usual the Bond girls were just pretty eye candy, and didnt lend hardly any relevance to the movie. whats her name was way out of charecter for the bond we grew up with.
It may have worked as another movie not using James Bond. I always thought people went to bond movies to see him kick the crap out of the bad guys and blow things up. And I really could have done without the torture scene. No normal guy likes to see another guy get his balls smashed. What kind of sick new direction are we taking this series anyway?
Eva Green however is totally hot. She was the only interesting part of the movie and thats why it gets one star, Ive never heard of her but now Im going to rent all her movies. Great, now shes got me P whipped.

As for Casino Royale, Id have to say it was the best Bond movie Ive seen. Daniel Craig did it up right in this movie....made the 00s of the past look too nice. This is by far the best 007 movie and Ive seen them all and have my favorite Bonds...this movie made me have to rethink my selections....Give it a R rating and some blood and sex and this movie would have been awesome. I thought for sure that the Bond series would die off after Bronson. Daniel Craig will take the Bond series and improve it with every new installlment....GREAT CHOICE...movie makers Craig is BOND. Now back to the review. For the first 1 hour and 15 minutes, James Bond ran with his shirt mostly unbuttoned. For the rest of the movie, which is also 1 hour and 15 minutes, which gives it a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes... James Bond played poker. Does that mean hes smart?

THE MOVIE WAS ACTION PACKED, KINDA LIKE A WHITE JACKIE CHAN AND DENZEL WASHINGTON ALL IN ONE. LOL
HAIR RAISING MOMENTS ESPECIALLY THE CARD GAME, WHERE THE RICH OF THE RICH PLAY.
THERE ARE PARTS WHERE I THINK THE AFRICANS SHOULD HAVE KILLED A GUY OR AT LEAST CHOPPED OFF HIS HAND. LOL
BUT ITS WORTH RENTING ON A RAINY DAY. BUT NOT WORTH BUYING AND ITS JUST A MOVIE I CAN ONLY WATCH ONCE. THATS WHY I GAVE IT 3 STARS. NOT A TRANSPORTER 2 BUT OK.

Even though it is not the James Bond everyone is used to, please get a life. There have been tons of people to grace the screen as James Bond. Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, just to name a few. Daniel Craig has to be the best Bond I have seen yet. He had everything it took to portray a 00 agent. And honestly, I still just do not understand why everyone was against this movie in the first place, then come back and say that it was the best movie ever. Please grow up, Americans. James Bond is fictional. He is what you wish you could be. And having dispatched such knowledge to the morons that hated this movie, I will leave you with that. I am going to sleep. I was so completely against a blond James Bond, but after seeing the movie, I have revised that assesment. The movie was incredible, the storyline was awesome and he (Daniel Craig) was soooo hot. Dont get me wrong, I think that other actors that have filled Bonds shoes were great, but Daniel Craigs Bond is spectacular. The movie also had a few funny moments, but overall, I enjoyed it more and more every time I saw it - 3 times. I cant wait for the DVD to come out and for the next Bond movie to be released. Location and scenery was absoultely beautiful. Not so much chemistry. It was almost like Craig tried too hard to smile, be jolly and overall happy acting. Hes best at being strong and silent. Action was good, matched Bond movies.
