This movie teaches a wonderful lesson without laying it on too thick, and the Italian fork lift is adorable. Its funny for adults and kids, and even pulls at a few heart strings, even with some tough history that is still going on today about the towns on route 66. Great animation and characters, you gotta see this classic! Was this review helpful? The textures of the cars were bright, colorful, and looked metallic. So metallic in fact that at time I found myself lost in how real the scenery in this digital cartoon looked. The images were beautiful.
The characters in the story have a life of their own. The typical animated movie archetypes make an appearance the selfish protagonist whos journey transforms him into a hero, the old has been with an unfinished legacy, and the sidekick whos lack of intelligence is made up for by his wise advice. The shining grace for this cast is the voice work. With talent like Owen Wilson, Cheech Marin, and Larry The Cable Guy towing the line its easy to make friends with these cars for a couple of hours.
Perhaps the most disappointing part of the movie, the story is by the book. Protagonist loses all and is humbled, which in turn makes him see the value of human (or vehicular) companionship. These bland copy and paste tales have cheapened the movie going experience for years, and this film jumps right on the band wagon. It feels like there is more effort spent on making these characters marketable than making the story memorable.
Overall, this was not a tough movie to sit through but its a couple of quarts away from being a classic. B- Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful First things first Cars isnt as good as The Incredibles. As Pixars follow-up to Brad Birds 2004 tour-de-force was doomed to comparison and doomed to suffer by it. We will never be fortunate enough to live in a world where every animated movie is as good as The Incredibles. But against other Pixar films, such as A Bugs Life or even Toy Story, Cars holds up well. It certainly surpasses Dreamworks best efforts, including the much-touted Shrek (Sorry, Im not a fan)
Cars once again demonstrates both Pixars incredible technical savvy as well as their knack for storytelling. To do this movie right, Pixar had to design a world where there are cars but no people. They had to make this world both natural and familiar. They also had to transpose emotions onto objects. They manage these challenges wonderfully, and viewers will quickly accept the reality the film offers. The casting is a big help in this. Paul Newman, Owen Wilson and Michael Keaton lend their distinctive voices to the main characters and that counts for a lot in an animated film.
The storyline is familiar enough, but thats forgivable in a movie that primarily meant for children, and the animation is more than stunning enough to make up for any predictability. My message is, dont go in expecting the depth, character or excitement of the Incredibles, but do go in expecting to be entertained and visually blown away. If I can help just on person skew their expectations right, Ill have done my job. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Wow. This is a great movie for kids and adults alike. Even though it creates refrences to other movies and such (such as the tractor tipping is close to the cow tipping in Barnyard), I would recommend this movie to any child over 5 (Its not the content, it is just younger children would not get the plot). Even people who dont like animation movies or cars should see this! Its both jumpin, jumpin and bootylicious! Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Seriously one of the funniest movies Ive seen this year.. its great to have animation movies where you completly forget that you are watching a kid movie..
I was so amazed by the attention to detail the movie had, the jokes were perfect, and the animation was flawless..
Even though its kind of predictable, it keeps you guessing and laughing.. my favorite were the little VW bugs.. the guy who thought of that deserves an award Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 7/24/2006A review of Cars by _WhiteWica Wow is the word.
I hate automobiles, they are like things from hell that some pimpleface spends all their money on to impress girls, which doesnt work, BUT that movie rocks!
If you are uninterested because the subject is cars, forget it, it is so well done that you even forget theyre cars!!
I really enjoyed this one and very funny too. Its another adult cartoon from Pixar. Jokes for kids, and for elder!
And once again, the actual cars are not the focus..although they are the whole cast! LOL!!
If you havent seen it, do it, its REALLY good! Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
