It was exactly like the horrors that other people compared it to. Saw, Hostile, Tourista, etc... If your in your early 20's, late teens, they are entertaining because most of the people it's marketed towards don't know any better. They call a movie Was this review helpful? Elisha is so hot in this so at least you can walk away with that in the worse case. It seems lame in the beginning but, be patient it only gets better as it progresses. Let's move on. Next! How many times do we have to see the same stuff before we tire from seeing it. This movie has the same dull plot that you've seen a million times: a girl, wakes up confined in a space she has never seen before, she is forced to either do something grusome or be killed, she is tortured, yada yada yada. I had no idea what this movie was about, and 15 minutes into it, I just about got sick on my stomach at the amount of blood, torture, gore and masochistic crap there was. This is, without a doubt, the most vile movie I had ever seen. Needless to say, I got up and walked out of the theatre. I wish I had thought to have gotten my money back, or a credit to see another movie some other time, but I was too shocked and revolted, to even think straight. I can not imagine what type of human being would enjoy Captivity. Undoubtly, a perverted and a twisted one.
Unfotunately, I had to rate this movie, and the only choices were 1 through 5. I would have rated it 0 , but that was not an option. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful elisha cuthbert is a goddess.Honestly, I forgot what the film was about as I stared at the uber lovely Elisha Cuthbert. I'd kidnap her to be my concubine. Seriously. If this were New Guinea, I'd lead her out into the wilds with the cannibals and make her my mating babe. we'd have dozens of babies and I'd keep her on her back for weeks on end, or even all fours. the film itself, I think was good. But like I said before, I am in love with elisha and would pay a thousand bucks to simply read the telephone book. Hopefully naked, but the short skirt and leather jacket will do. Where do I begin discussing her? Let's see, her butt is flawless. I mean flawless. My brother Dave loves it too. He thinks about it all of the time. Morning noon and night. My friend Brian likes her too. He comments on her feet and her teeth. He likes her white teeth. Oh, Dave also likes the fact that she goes tanning all the time and smells like peaches. Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  Not Really Torture PornI’m a fan of the Saw series, and Hostel (not of Hostel 2). I enjoy these types of movies and I’m only a tad ashamed. Call me a dumb, violence seeking goon but these movies are entertaining.
What’s this got to do with Captivity? Well, nothing really. I was drawn to this movie because I thought it was going to be another retelling of this sick sub-genre of horror that I do so love. I was sadly disappointed because this absolutely is not a “torture porn” movie. It would have been much more honest of the production company, After Dark Films, to say it was a thriller with slight torture porn inklings (very slight).
Maybe, the folks at After Dark didn’t actually see the movie. What I saw was psychological in nature and dealt much more with assaults on the mind of those captive than it did with actual assaults on the bodies of those captive. Yes, there is some blood and some nasty gore but nothing like Saw or Hostel or even Touristas.
Understand that if you don’t like Saw, Hostel etc., then this is a good choice for a horror thriller to go see this weekend.
Now that that’s out of the way I’ll just say:
It’s not a great movie but adequate. A solid B-movie endeavor. Fun, kind of stupid at times, pretty good acting by the luscious Elisha Cuthbert (for the guys-your girlfriends might get jealous) and the director, Roland Joffe (best known for The Mission, The Killing Fields), imbued the entire film with a look that worked very well to be creepy and ominous. It moves fairly quickly, lags a bit in the middle and ends with a slightly predictable twist but really you don’t care at that point because, surprise, you’ve been entertained. Well, at least I was even though my hunger for gore was only slightly abated.

I heard the re-shoots will make this movie 120 even more entertaining, but I have a feeling that I will never get a chance to see the movie when After Dark keeps pushing back the release date. She plays Jennifer who is a universally known model that is captured and tied down in a dark and nasty basement. No doubt about it, She is going to get tortured and put to the brink of death, so for a model is bad news. Elisha Cuthbert who speaks French and grew up in beautiful Montreal does an excellent job playing an abducted and tied up model. The plot of movie. A man and a woman awaken to find themselves captured in a cellar. As their kidnapper drives them psychologically mad, the truth about their horrific abduction is revealed.
