shame on them. I know a good movie when i see one. And this movie couldnt be any better. The acting, the editing, the picture!
I loved just loved this brilliantly made movie. one of my favorites.
I can go on and on... Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This is an almost decent film that has received an unjustifiable amount of stellar praise. While Hoffmans performance of Capote is quite good and believable, it is clear that the academy has dished out another lifetime achievement award. As for Keeners nomination, I dont get it. I suspect in this case, at least, some sort of brilliance by association recognition was granted. If youre intrigued by the subject matter of Capotes In Cold Blood, I suggest you watch the original movie starring Robert Blake. A very good film. If, on the other hand youre intrigued by Capote the personality, youve got issues. Capote, the man, was a narcissistic self-indulgent twit with a very annoying voice. Was this review helpful? Was this review helpful? Sign In 13 out of 13 users found this helpful Excellent, entertaining. Philip Seymour Hoffman certainly deserves an Academy Award for his portrayal of Truman Capote. My husband and I were so impressed with his complete transformation from his usual roles.
The story line showed Capote as a highly intelligent man, who was able to manipulate people into serving his whims. And, also, one who with his wit and charm captivated his audience, whether with his written words, or by his storytelling in social gatherings.
I would recommend anyone who appreciates subtle humor, and excellent acting on the part of the entire cast, go see the movie Capote,
you will not be disappointed. Was this review helpful? Catherine Keener, Bruce Greenwood and Chris Cooper are also excellent. However, with a few short exceptions at the beginning, this movie moves too slowly, with too many gaps in the story, and this film leaves too many unanswered questions regarding the characters and the story. The film may have delivered a deep and thought-provoking study of Capotes ambitions and motivations, but, in the end, that is not enough. To be a great movie, the film needed to fill in a few more of the gaps in ths underlying story, and to tie up some of the loose ends with some of the other characters. Was this review helpful? This film was not in the fast action category because Capote was an insightful and very deliberate thinker, talker and writer. Even though it had a slow pace, this movie kept this viewer spellbound throughout the entire performance. The main thing, in my opinion, that this movie got across was the ability to make the audience almost feel sorry for one of the killers. The task of portraying a complex personality like Truman Capotes was amazingly captured. To say that Mr. Hoffmans performance was memorable would be a gross understatement. This movie also pointed out that sometimes too much fame is not necessarily a good thing. Was this review helpful? The screenplay, tightly written and close to the bone, gives the viewer a seamless path from one event to the next, you are not left wondering what in the hell is going on. There is, for every action in this film, an effect.
The soundtrack, perfect. Nothing invasive or annoying. A beautiful repetition of chords to sink in the pathos nails. Good fit.
I saw the movie In Cold Blood when it came out, I read the book. But I think the beauty of this movie is the reality of what a writer goes through to write a novel on par with In Cold Blood. I didn't know a lot about Capote save for the time shortly before his death and his crazy antics in print. (Did you see the movie Murder By Death?-very funny, campy)
This is so well acted, so real. Not a lot of fluff. Go see it. Was this review helpful? The trailer looks very good and the pre-reviews are excellent and generating early award buzz! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 6 users found this helpful I really can't wait to see this movie. I'm actually doing a bio on Truman Capote right now. The trailer looks good, but I really don't like Philip Seymour Hoffman all that much.
The review I read in Newsweek about it says that "Philip Seymour Hoffman dominates Capote with his complex, uncanny portrait of the gay writer. His Truman Capote is seductive, ambitious and dangerous."
I can say I'll be one of the first people in line to see it. It looks very interesting.
