Philip Seymour Hoffman certainly deserves an Academy Award for his portrayal of Truman Capote. My husband and I were so impressed with his complete transformation from his usual roles.
The story line showed Capote as a highly intelligent man, who was able to manipulate people into serving his whims. And, also, one who with his wit and charm captivated his audience, whether with his written words, or by his storytelling in social gatherings.
I would recommend anyone who appreciates subtle humor, and excellent acting on the part of the entire cast, go see the movie Capote,
you will not be disappointed. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 17 out of 17 users found this helpful this movie was brilliant.... on so many levels the audience is woven into the story and into the concepts of fact, fiction, storytelling and the major themes of our modern culture.... the acting is superb, the dialog and cinematography moving, the editing is subtle and powerful... one is never quite sure to whom or to what the title in cold blood refers - the crime in kansas, the negligence of shattered childhoods, the brutalities of everyday friendships, or even the judicial process... well worth watching and then thinking about afterwards! bravo! Sign in 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 10/15/2005A review of Capote by Scooterdawg0 One of the top ten movies I have seen to date (and I have seen ALOT of movies). The screenplay, tightly written and close to the bone, gives the viewer a seamless path from one event to the next, you are not left wondering what in the hell is going on. There is, for every action in this film, an effect.
The soundtrack, perfect. Nothing invasive or annoying. A beautiful repetition of chords to sink in the pathos nails. Good fit.
I saw the movie In Cold Blood when it came out, I read the book. But I think the beauty of this movie is the reality of what a writer goes through to write a novel on par with In Cold Blood. I didn't know a lot about Capote save for the time shortly before his death and his crazy antics in print. (Did you see the movie Murder By Death?-very funny, campy)
This is so well acted, so real. Not a lot of fluff. Go see it. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. The trailer looks very good and the pre-reviews are excellent and generating early award buzz! Was this review helpful? Sign in 0 out of 6 users found this helpful Posted: 9/21/2005A review of Capote by Brooke Nelson I really can't wait to see this movie. I'm actually doing a bio on Truman Capote right now. The trailer looks good, but I really don't like Philip Seymour Hoffman all that much.
The review I read in Newsweek about it says that "Philip Seymour Hoffman dominates Capote with his complex, uncanny portrait of the gay writer. His Truman Capote is seductive, ambitious and dangerous."
I can say I'll be one of the first people in line to see it. It looks very interesting.
