Date ![]() Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful The car chase features a Mustang 390 CID - 335hp with clipped heads chasing a stock 68' Charger R/T with 440CID - 375hp. Both cars had 4 speed transmisions. If you watch on a big screen you actually see the Mustang's wheel hopping since it did not have positraction and the Charger pushing oil under full acceleration out the exhausts. No special effects here. These cars could and did act these ways. I love how McQueen nearly has a head one collison while he lost control while he was passing with a car coming at him. The smallish stering wheel was going back and forth while he was trying to regain control. I understand that the chase car for filming had a 427 corvette engine on a open box frame vehicle so it could stay up. The only modifications to the cars were Nascar springs and shocks to help the jumping of the San Fransico streets. Outstanding chase film and the plot is not bad either. Was this review helpful? If the Hemi would have had a stiffer suspension and fatter tires, there would have been no contest. McQueen was the coolest actor around. Was this review helpful? You can get the motion effect of the chase when watching it on the TV, but it doesn't come close to the effects on the big screen. Plus, back then this was one hot car, available and on the street. The whole car deal made us drool. Ya gotta see it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-5 of 5 Per Page | ||
