Saw it yesterday. I have got to say that it was truly a very good movie. I loved the characters and the story. The little girls were great too. I recommend this movie to all. Especially to non-military people. It really shows how much people sacrafice everyday for us. It was very touching.

I really was impressed with acting in the movie right down to the girls who play the daughters. I want to make it very clear that I did enjoy the movie but feel I was misled in the storyline through the commercials and the TV interviews. I am not one to need all the information about a movie but being terribly misled leaves me a bit irritated at the end. The movie should boast more about what our troops may suffer at the hands of war and the support they may need when they come home. I felt the family was very evasive in answering basic questions to the returning POW and I felt a bit confused by this. That being said, if I was better informed of the story line I would not have felt so misled. I really do think this movie is worth recommending. Toby McGuire was absolutely and completely believable in this very demanding role. Nothing short of brilliant.

Wow. I just saw this movie and had to come straight home and right a review. I've never reviewed a movie before but as a recently retired Marine, I have to spread the word about this great movie. I was amazed at how powerful the performances were by every main character. This should get Oscar nods for Tobey, Jake, Natalie and even the young girl who played his older daughter. I cried so hard because Tobey was so convincing as a tortured soul suffering from PTSD. I know how he feels when he volunteers to go back even after being tortured by the Taliban for many months. The love felt for his Marine brothers can only be truely appreciated by those who have fought and bled together. Even those warriors who disagree with the war will stay in and return over and over to honor their brother-in-arms who died not so much for country, but for each other.

" 'Brothers' is well-intentioned and well-made, but when the time comes for it to really look at Afghanistan and what we're doing there -- in fact, President Obama just announced his Afghanistan plan, and is expected to send some 34,000 troops to the region, 34,000 more men and women, 34,000 more Sam Cahills leaving 34,000 new families -- it seems to shrug and leave well enough alone. "Brothers" shows us the pain of a family in wartime, and that makes it a decent film; if it were more willing to confirm or question what all that pain is for, then it could have been a great one. " After reading this critics' review at MSN, as an Afghanistan veteran myself I had to leave this comment: ATTENTION HOLLYWOOD: It's a free country, so I guess you can comment all you want on the wars in Iraq and A-stan through your work, if you feel you must. But it is NOT UP TO YOU TO DECIDE whether or not we should be there. THAT IS NOT UP TO YOU. Thank you, producers and director of "Brothers," for not going all Michael Moore on us with this movie. And as far as what this vet thinks: All you Americans seem to think that we should be able to wrap up a war in real life the same way Hollywood can on the screen. Hollywood has almost NEVER accuratly portrayed war. You can't jump to different points in time in a war in real life, and you can't just wrap it up and say 'we're done' and go home! IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY! America and what few allies it has left are fighting these wars so that people in those countries can actually live like humans should be able to. We're trying to convince these people that they can, in fact, live well, be prosperous, be educated, and get along without killing each other. And we are, in fact, succeeding on many levels. The media--especially NBC and it's affiliates--doesn't report that because it doesn't make for good ratings. If you want to know what the military's doing, ask THEM.

As of Sat., Nov. 28, '09 - MSN has made a little boo-boo - well, maybe not so little. While the picture ad for the up-coming movie "Brothers" is correct, according to MSN this is a Tim Allen movie and thus, a comedy. Normally I wouldn't say anything but this film by Jim Sheridan will likely be one of the more Oscar worthy films of the year. While I personally like Tim Allen, this is not exactly his genre. Let's get is right guys. Loanbear
