Really loved the movie - terrific cast, great script, fast pace with lots of turns and twists, and great balancing act of keeping it real but not sliding into mandane or depressing. The main protagonist, absolutely owned by Cillian Murphy, gets his share of that stuff that normally hits the fan - growing up gay in bloody Ireland - but the movie manages to stay away from becoming a bona fide tear-jerker or a wake. Did I mention that its thoroughly entertaining? A number of so called gay movies tend to get preachy and didactic but not this one, this one is real all-out good ol lover boy fun. You know, after reading all them reviews I realized that I am not that into cowboy relationships, gay or otherwise. But this movie is absolutely free from cowboys and pesticides, instead its full of priests, whores, IRA members, magicians, serial killers, fat guys who dress up like mice, and other people fun to be around. And 100 - as Kitten would say - Not Serious. I promise.

When the reviewers below say they want a movie with a masculine hero, they make it clear that theyve been living under a very large rock for a very long time. Its only been in very recent years that heroes have been depicted as anyone other than handsome, white, heterosexua menl. Movies like Breakfast on Pluto and Brokeback Mtn are among the first to show the diverse reality of heroism with regards to sexual orientation. Heroes arent always male, straight, white, or handsome. If you cant handle intelligent movies, stay home and watch re-runs of the Dukes of Hazzard. If you enjoy wry humor and a different perspective, go see this movie.

The reviewers who want to appear to be sooo against this kind of movie could they possibly not have known what it was about before watching it? Come on. Anyway the story is very fresh and compelling despite a bit of scenery chewing along the way. And some of it was just a stretch, especially the religious life aspects. All in all an informative look at not only gender issues, but a glimpse of 60s and 70s British Isles turmoil. Some of the dialogue is hard to understand as the accents are a bit thick. CM does do quite a good job with a particularly challenging role.

Breakfast on Pluto Being filmed in Dublin, Ireland and London, England, this movie is really going to provoke Dubliners interest. The movie is set in 1970, and spins around an attractive but deceivingly tough young man. Neglected as a child in his petite Irish hometown and conscious, from an extremely young age, that he is different, Patrick lives this callous atmosphere with the support of his humour and allure, and a saccharine rejection to let anyone and anything alter what he really is. The story follows the misadventures of Patrick Braden, (often called @ or Brady) played by Cillian Murphy, who leaves behind his small-town living in Ireland for London, where he is reborn as a transvestite club songster in the 1960s and 70s. Breakfast on Pluto chases the misfortunes of Patrick, on an expedition to discover love and a place to name home. MPAA Rating R for sexuality, language, some violence and drug use.

It is so sad that close-minded individuals cannot see this movie for what it really is. They cannot see past his sexual preferences to the true story line which is a person quest to find who they are and to be happy with that. Is there really nothing better for you to do then to write homophobic reviews on movies? Go home, read your bible, and put some sunscreen on that red-neck of yours.

Another gay movie.I know why men are staying home from the movies. Can we just get one masculine hero movie. Whatever happened to the manly protagonist in movies. Im sick of hollywood trying to shove the gay agenda down the countrys throat--i mean really --i could live the rest of my life without seeing two men kissing each other. Hollywood is going to continue to see a decline in real men coming to the box office as long as all we get is female actions stars and fudgepacking gender bender heros. We just dont identify with that -We are not movie critics. We work jobs and just want some entertaining escapism, something we can watch withour sons. This movie just reminds me of the decline of society. Please lets have a return to real manly characters.

Another Fudge packer delight movie. How about a movie about a kid who grows up with a strong set of morals despite the LIBERAL MEDIA and the Left Wingers? Nooo we couldnt have that. Society is so screwed up with this do whatever feels right for you mentality. Is homosexuality and abortion the answer to the worlds problems? Nope not really. Is strong ethics, morality, selflessness the answer? It is a start and guess where you can find a lot of direction in these matters... The number one all time best seller, the Bible. Oh no! He said the B word!!! Truth is truth whether you accept it or deny it. Rest assured one day will come when you will acknowledge the truth.

A sensitive transvestite tries to find happiness in Neil Jordans sprawling, ambitious but ultimately tiresome fantasia. Chapter one (of 36) introduces the audience to the baby who will grow up to become Patrick Kitten Braden (Red Eyes Cillian Murphy). The product of a union between Father Bernard (Liam Neeson) and his housekeeper, Patrick is shunted off to an uncaring foster family and quickly becomes obsessed with finding his mother, who abandoned him on the doorstep of Father Bernards church. He also decides he is a woman trapped in a mans body -- something that doesnt go over too well in his small Irish hometown. Various adventures follow, as Kitten meets up with all sorts -- some who want to love him, others who want to kill him -- even as the situation in Northern Ireland rears its ugly head. Jordan (The Good Thief) is in full throttle here, effortlessly and expertly shifting gears from fey fantasy to brutal reality. But the two genres dont mix well and, inadvertently, Jordan and company end up trivializing the violence and terrorism that afflicted England and Ireland in the 1970s and 80s. More problematic still is the films protagonist. Despite Murphys believable oscar performance as Kitten, who is determined to ignore lifes sadness, her persona is paper thin. Theres simply not much depth to her, and the quest to find her mother isnt particularly compelling. The films secondary characters also fare badly theyre either given thankless, dull roles (Neeson) or are discarded just as they become interesting (Brendan Gleeson as a costumed, drunken entertainer). Even the movies diverse soundtrack, ranging from Harry Nilsson to Bobby Goldsboro, falls flat, too often unimaginatively commenting on the actions going on within the frame. The film does look gorgeous, courtesy of cinematographer Declan Quinn, and its dark Irish wit is always appealing, but thats not flick enough.
