Vietnam was a cluster!@ war for a no good reason, this movie brings out the insanity of the time, and how we Vietnam Vets were treated. Nothing changes for Marines, point us at an objective and we will take it even if we lose half the Marine Corps to get it, makes no sense, plain insanity.

This was a very powerful film. Oliver Stone well deserved his Best Director Oscar and this was, by far, one of Tom Cruises best performances. I didnt feel Cruise was the best to play the sergeant during the war, with his little voice and such, but he was the perfect choice to play the paralyzed Ron Kovic. This film was very emotional and moving. The scene when he came home drunk and fought with his mother was the most emotional part of the movie and even nearly had me in tears. Cruise plays his character excellently. I could not even begin to imagine how I would feel to lose all feeling below the chest. Stone shows the dark side of war and its aftermath. Im telling you I could not join the Marines or that because of the trauma most veterans face afterwards. This is a great film that shows how the country felt about the war and how veterans were treated during the conflict of Vietnam.

Tom Cruise (Ron Kovic)was excellent along with the direction by Oliver Stone. Cruise does a first rate job in capturing the struggles of real-life Vietnam vet, Ron Kovic. Stone also does a superb job in adapting the book for the screen. His direction is first-rate in its realism and the way he explores the darker side of war. Overall, one of the best movies by Stone and Cruise.

Tom Cruise plays real life Vietnam Veteran Ron Kovic in easily the best performance of his career. The range Cruise has in this movie is excellent...from a clean-cut middle-class high school teenager to a Marine in Vietnam to a bitter paralyzed veteran. It's a sham that he did not win Best Actor that year because he deserved it.(losing to Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot) The movie itself is excellent with many great scenes and dialogue. The scene I consider the best in the movie is when Kovic(Cruise) comes home drunk one night and has an argument with his parents. Oliver Stone did a great job in directing this film as he won the award for Best Director. I highly recommend this film.
