I was 11, a kid when this happened. It was nostalgic and sad for me. It was a hard time for our country, Vietnam, the shootings of John and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King, riots violence, drugs. Things went on believed to be politically motivated, just as it is today. It was a time that changed our country. I dont buy movies, but I plan to buy this one. The whole cast did a wonderful job! Good job Emilio Estevez. Was this review helpful? my favorite scene is the one with lawrence fishburne and the latino sitting at the kitchen table.
lawrence fishburne and anthony hopkins characters were my favorites. u got ashton kutcher as a hippie. demi moore as a drunk singer. nick cannon as a young blackman, looking for hope.
the movie shows real campign footage of bobbys run. In the end it shows you how all these lives were together when bobby was shot.
i think the movie should have went more in depth on why the killer killed bobby and how and what was he thinking. instead of just walking up and shooting him.
the movie drags out. i couldnt watch the whole thing, so i had to watch it in peices at a time.
i couldnt watch the movie over again. thats why i gave it 3 stars.
The movie is not worth buying, but worth renting if you like history bio movies.
just my opinion more reviews comming. Was this review helpful? This was so worth the money. It is not a political movie like some might think - it is a movie about humans and thier behavior and the times. I Loved it !!!!!!!!!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This movie is all about liberal propaganda, not so much about Bobby Kennedy. Instead of wasting 2 hours with the fictional characters, it wouldve been more interesting to center about why he was assasinated, and who did it. There are hints, but no development. I particularly disliked the trivialization of drug use. That said, the acting is very good, especially Sharon Stones. She nailed her part. And the cast is solid, so overall is not so bad. I sat in the theater waiting for something to happen and kept glancing at my watch. I finally walked out two-thirds of the way through.
First, the title is deceptive. RFK isnt even in the movie other than his archival footage. It should be more properly called Stories-of-Unrelated-and-Unimportant-Pe ople-at-the-Ambassado r-Hotel-on-the-Day-RFK-Died. It reminded me of Love Boat or Fantasy Island because of these unrelated stories that have no real connection other than being at the Ambassador Hotel that night in 1968. Frankly, Love Boat and Fantasy Island is more enjoyable than this film.
I am a history teacher. I went hoping to find a new way of teaching about the sixties in general and RFK in particular. What I found was a movie filled with the Hollywood elite like Sir Anthony Hopkins, William H Macy, Laurence Fishbourne, and Demi Moore just sitting around talking about how bad it is to grow old, how their lives are going nowhere, how the white man puts them down, and how the Hispanics will retake California. Very few of these people have any connection with RFK, and those who do are either dropping acid in an effort for comic relief or are in limited roles.
In his transition from actor to director, Estevez has forgotten two things first, a movie must have a PLOT and second, the characters must be likable. There is no plot (which makes Cats look like Shakespeare) and the characters are people I ultimately didnt care for. His characters arent fully developed. They are cookie-cutter stereotypes pulled from a screenwriting textbook.
The only time I felt anything was during RFKs archive footage reminding me that history would have been so different if he had lived and that we need his kind of leadership today from either party. RFK shouldnt have died, but Bobby should be put out of its misery quickly and quietly. Was this review helpful? This movie is entertaining and thought provoking. But its still just a movie. Was this review helpful? Demonstrated the America hasnt really changed much in 40 years...we deal with the same issues....yet with a cell phone plastered to our ear. Americans were looking for a man with character and integrity to lead our country....and we are still looking. Inspiring.. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/2/2006A review of Bobby by Captainbobm I agree with everything you said, Mortified. I too seen the left wing liberal democrat political nature of this movie, and I only seen previews and read reviews of it. No, Im not going to waste my time seeing it, because I already know what it is, just more democrat liberal movie making. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/2/2006A review of Bobby by Dennis0847 I cant praise this movie as the other reviewers can, mainly because Emilio Estevez was using it for his own political agenda. Everyone must have noticed that he focused, primarily, on the 2 bus boys, who were of Latino descension. These segments had the longest play time. It was apparent Emilio was sending a message that the Latino Hispanic population will not be kept down. (No one is saying they should be kept down, only that they should come to the United States LEGALLY.) The one bus boy with a chip on his shoulder for all the wrongdoings done to him, then the speech Laurence Fishburne gave about giving the white man an opportunity to feel like hes doing something good and righteous, as if the white man is being duped by others who are not white, that the white man was made to feel as if it was his idea to accept the black man, the Latino man, etc., was particularly nauseating. I found it personally offensive. WHY didnt anyone else?? Now we have another actor director using his fame and fortune to send a message. Especially infuriating was when the bus boy spoke of taking back California. Regardless of all this, the other backstories should have been given equal time. Im surprised no one else picked up on this political ploy. Bottom line Emilio hasnt been able to make it as an actor, now hes trying his hand in other arenas, as director, politician, and rallyist. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Bobby Kennedy was a great hope for many people in a very turbulent time in our countrys history. This film was a very honest portrayal of those people. Moreover, it was a very moving example of the circumstances of regular people who were just living their lives, with all of their flaws included, during that time. And near the end, the absolute anguish felt by them and their loved ones as they were, like Bobby, senslessly shot. This movie reminds me that people are more than their political leanings. They are children of God.
I loved all of the characters for that reason - they were so real.
Whether or not you agree with RFKs politics is immaterial. This movie was a about the people who loved and supported him, about their individual lives. And I feel Emilio did very well in simply making a movie about them. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful It is weird to see how so many people saw this as a poor film. Everybody has the right to their own opinion even though it seems that they missed the point of the movie.
I felt that the movie was very interesting as well as educational. Unfortunately, so many of our young people are clueless on American History which leads so many things to continuosly repeat themselves. If you see this movie, you will notice how many of the circumstances facing Americans at that time are exactly what we are facing today. War, racism, inequality between the rich and the poor, and a hope for a President to come into office who really cares about the American people.
The stories of the other people helps to give a sense of how several people at the time were feeling so that you can understand how RFKs death impacted their lives. To see and fully understand this movie, you must have a open mind to get the point. When you hear the hope that he had for this country, it astonishes you because you hope for a president to say and mean the very same thing to come into office. I hope that we will someday get into office someone with the same ideas and goals for this country so that one day things will eventually change for the better. One can only hope. Very enjoyable and interesting!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I saw the movie over the weekend and I was disappointed. After seeing the previews and all the hype about it I expected to see a little more about him and the campaign instead of so much news footage from the period. I was surprised to learn that so many other people were shot in the kitchen that day. I was only aware of Bobby being shot. Dont know if that part is fact or fiction though. I think if I knew what I know now about the movie, Id see it on DVD. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/26/2006A review of Bobby by aztiggerfan Emilio Estevez has the mettle to be a very good director. He did an excellant job of connecting several different characters in the story. The characters were a good example of the diverstiy of California in June of 1968. I felt the actual clips of Bobby gave realism to the movie. This was a very moving picture and in my opinion should be nominated for best picture and Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishbourne, and Harry Belafonte should all be nominated for best supporting actors for this film. Overall the acting was subperb and some of the younger actors proved they just might have what it takes when the best of the best actors retire. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
