This HDDVD is a good addition to any DVD collection. Was this review helpful? im gessing this movie would have been alot better if i had seen it in 3-D but...
maybe if they had put a little more beliveable action intoo this movie rather than a crappy story line and crappier action... Was this review helpful? The animation was amazing, at times it looked real. The action, not for the week hearted or young, was a little overdone with the gore, but it was still good. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/8/2007A review of Beowulf by MrMusicMan0 It wasn't even close. This is by far the worst movie I've seen. My dad and I left halfway through, and it's the new butt of any joke in the household. Total and blatant disregard for the ACTUAL story, which is still sort of misguided, but they pervert this until it wreaks of Gigli. Just stupid stuff happening. Nudity and thespian one-line innuendos at every turn, and nothing clever. John Malkovich is the worst voiceover actor in the history of mankind. I think Zemeckis must be getting old and horny or something. The violence was just gratuitous, but then again, so was the whole movie. Maybe I should get sloshed or stoned and see it again. Will it make sense? Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This is a great film. While it seems some viewers were expecting something different than what they got (in particular viewers who brought young children - expecting perhaps Polar Express with Vikings?), it was an excellent effort taken on its own terms. I found the plot deep and engaging, much like the original story, with a realistic and entertaining texture that accurately reflected the Danish cultural roots as well as some of the historical currents of the era.
After the first few minutes, I forgot that the film was animated and enjoyed the rest of the experience. For those who expected less colorful language and action from a film set centuries ago in Scandinavia, I suggest they read some Icelandic Sagas... Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I have come to the conclusion that you will either love this movie or hate it. I think the reason many people gave this movie a negative review is because of the ending. I do wish the ending could have been better. I have never read the Beowulf poem. I suppose the poem is completely different from the movie. This movie reminded me of "Conan the Barbarian" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Beowulf is not your typical hero. He is exactly like Conan. He simply does whatever it takes to become wealthy and survive for another day. I thought this movie was very good. I really liked the "Polar Express" too. The animation in both movies is incredible. I have never seen animation as good as what I saw in "Beowulf". You will almost forget that you are watching an animated film because the characters in the movie look so realistic. I did see this movie in digital 3-D. You have to see this in 3-D. I wish all movies could be made in digital 3-D. I think I paid for the extra 3-D effects too. They charged me $8.50 for the movie ticket. I think the 3-D glasses added an extra $2.25 to the cost of my ticket. This film is by no means a classic. It's definitely not intended to be a family film, but I think this may be the future of films. If the animation in these types of films gets much better, there will be no need to use live actors anymore. Was this review helpful? Caught a $7 DVD called Beowulf & Grindel that was far more entertaining and true to the character of the story. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/29/2007A review of Beowulf by sunny53140 This movie was a total waste of time - the 3D effect did not redeem the face that the movie had no plot and insipid dialogue that was funny where it shouldn't have been. Luckily for me, I did not have to pay for the movie ticket. My date was stuck for that one. Miss this. The actors involved - Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, and Angelina Jolie should be ashamed of themselves for taking part in this bad excuse for a cartoon. Nobody cares about the plot - it barely exists. See something (anything) else when you go to the movies. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I don't understand why people refer to it as "porn" more than action. Yes, it was erotic, but without any sex scenes or frank nudity. It takes skill to do that! I expected this movie to be boring, but found it surprizingly entertaining. The animation, of course, was out of this world! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I read the story and then watched a movie that seemed more like a porn movie than a movie, movie, so when this was released I really had my hopes high. Unfortunately it was not good. It was a weird movie that had nothing to do with the story. It was funny, but I believe it did not do the story of Beowulf any good. Oh, and how they made Grendal look was not evil at all. It was a gross character, and it should have been more beast-like. And Angelina did not act well!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/26/2007A review of Beowulf by iyinyangu2 Maybe I enjoyed the movie enough to see it three times, because I never read the book. I felt each actor was chosen perfectly for the role they played. The story line didn't miss a beat. The only thing bad that I could point out was that Grendal's voice was hard to understand. The animation was some of the best i've ever seen and the 3D effect was superb. If you don't see the movie in the theatres, in 3D, you'll be missing out on one of the greatest "MOVIE THEATRE MOVIE's" of all time. It blows Transformers away. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/26/2007A review of Beowulf by movielover1041 Well, my boyfriend fell asleep and I could not get out of the theatre fast enough! What a waste of a great story and shameful use of pr to get you to see it! It is the top 5 of my list of worst movies EVER. Since they are animated you have no attachment to the characters and feel like you are sitting in the kids section at preschool. It was awful and i would never recommend it to anyone! My boyfriend and I are mad we wasted those hours because it was not worth it in any way! Just awful! Was this review helpful? This movie could have been great on the scale of Lord of The rings. That CG crap did not mke the movie "So Exceptional" If your going to make a cartoon why use actors! I think that studios have forgotten that people like to see actors act thats why we go to the movies. This movie was as big a piece of S**T as polar express. Since you don't have to build all those expensive sets and have all the actors that you normally would ticket prices should be lower- Have not seen that yet-. Anyway anyone who thought that this movie was great is an idiot and has not seen a real movie. The story was told pathetically, their was no middle , no big build up and the ending totally BLOWS! My advice wait for the DVD to see it so you don't have a lot of money on that moldy piece of CRAP! Was this review helpful? There is also no plot. HORRIBLE DONT SEE IT Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 11/24/2007A review of Beowulf by elliebeth0702 The movie was kind of bland and transitioned from an interesting story that could have been taken somewhere interesting to a sort of quest of old-people. I also would have liked to see more dynamic between the golden-dragon thing and beowulf, at least on a more civilized level, no death matches. The animation was okay. Some of the face shots looked exactly like the people. I like the idea that beowulf had when fighting grendel about not wearing clothes to be his equal, but i did not really wanna see him animated booty jumping around. Btw, i wanted to see grendel's mother in her actual non-human form like straight out, not underwater. Since we didnt get to see, i am somewhat imagining her looking like a flounder. A flounder water demon just really isn't that frightening. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
