Thumbs down Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 6 users found this helpful Posted: 4/15/2005A review of Beauty Shop by JDN321011 This movie was pretty much just so so. I really didn't care about any of the characters and some of the situations were ridiculous. The a**hole boss was a bit over the top but not funny or dangerous at all. I did not recommend it to any of my friends. Don't waste your money at the show. If you really need to see it, wait till it comes out on video. Save your money. Was this review helpful? Indeed the Beauty Shop has truly proven that blacks and whites are equal in every way. Despite the fact that there is a difference in race, there is no reason for prejudice. This movie is awesomely unique! Queen Latifah, Kevin Bacon and all of the other co-stars, were astoundingly wonderful! They all have exemplified that we can all do something for the good of ourselves, and, overstep the boundaries of social confusion. All of the stars were excellent characters and performed well. I give a great standing ovation to you all. Looking forward to the next Beauty Shop II. Keep up the good work! God Bless! Was this review helpful? You wont be calling up all your friends to drop everything and go watch it, but if you are bored this movie isnt bad for killing a couple of hours with out feeling like you got robbed. . Actually had a little more depth to it than Barbershop . I was a little skeptical considering this movie is just a spin off of Barbershop.
Typical urban movie though..."lets make the one white girl in the shop the brunt of all the jokes" all in all I say good movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 12 users found this helpful Posted: 4/8/2005A review of Beauty Shop by truckinup63 This movie does not qualify for a four start rating. Out of the total running time of the movie there was perhaps 15 minutes of "good" movie stuff.
Kevin Bacon was good in his role. Was this review helpful? Sign In 6 out of 10 users found this helpful Posted: 4/4/2005A review of Beauty Shop by Drac87 Nice film. Very funny at times. Latifah does a good job and proves herself to be an excellent comedienne! All the supporting players did a great job here as well. Nothing too crazy or over the top! Just some good clean, ghetto-style fun and laughs! So take your friends, male or female, black or white, and enjoy!! Was this review helpful? Queen Latifah seemed a little flat in some scenes, not entertaining. Kevin Bacon looked sickly and on his death bed. My friend and I were laughing, but only at the long 2 hours it took to end. Sorry, just my opinion. Kind of a disgrace to the black community. Was this review helpful? I have not laughed as long or as hard. Queen L. is the best.Queen keep up the good work. Was this review helpful? Sign In 21 out of 29 users found this helpful Posted: 4/1/2005A review of Beauty Shop by purearies0 I think Beauty Shop was a great film. It was funny, sexy and diverse. It wasn't your typical ghetto fabulous film. There content and substance to story line. I loved it.
From a black woman’s perspective, it was absolutely hilarious. I love the fact that a black woman was talented and versatile enough to be able to work in a "white" environment and transition to a "black" environment and never change who she is. Yes, the movie depicts a lot of stereotypes but it also shows that all black people do not think or enjoy these negative stereotypes that we see in most films. Queen Latifa's character is strong, successful and determined to treat people the way they deserve to be treated based on the content of their character not their color. That is why she succeeded as a professional and great parent.
It's a must see. James, played by Brice of "Groove Theory", is HOTTTT and he will brighten up your day. I want to know what took so long for him to make his acting debut. I will buy this movie as soon as it is released just to watch his scenes. :) Was this review helpful? Sign In 16 out of 22 users found this helpful Posted: 4/1/2005A review of Beauty Shop by lwj280 I wasn't expecting an Academy Award performance so I wasn't disappointed. The movie was a nice diversion and it was funny so as far as I was concerned, it did what it was supposed to do.Even my 13 yr old son laughed and he's at the age where everything "bores" him! I thought the movie was somewhat predictible but most of them are nowdays anyway. I didn't realize Beauty Shop had as many recognizable stars in it as it did, and I really liked that. All in all, I'd say it was certainly worth the money. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/30/2005A review of Beauty Shop by Anonymous What a cast! Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Kevin Bacon, Andie MacDowell, Mena Suvari, Bryce Wilson (yum), Djimon Hounsou (yum), and many other faces you would easily pay to see....WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! - And to think I brought my children to that disaster. I chuckled maybe twice (or was it popcorn in my windpipe?), the rest of the racist 100+ minutes were filled with every negative white and black cultural stereo-type as I have ever seen or heard. None of the characters were lovable or believable or remotely funny. Some of the finest modern American actors actually agreeing to participate in this schlop. Hard to fathom. Queen, Kevin, Djimon, et al. You artists have a responsiblity to work on projects that create unity in our cultures and races, not division. Shame on the lot of you. Was this review helpful? Sign In 7 out of 29 users found this helpful Posted: 3/28/2005A review of Beauty Shop by bobx748 I had the opportunity to see this at a sneak preview and was very dissappointed at the movie. Disappointment may be to "light" a word. This movie was BAD. In fact, I wanted to leave after the first five minutes.
The movie was not honest. My senses were assulted and insulted at the level of what was considered entertainment value for this movie. It reached too hard to be a crossover movie and failed badly. I was offended at the jokes and the inappropiate ways in which people talked about other people. IT WAS NOT FUNNY. In fact, this film was not worthy of the classy lady who played the lead and certainly not worthy of the other film actors who played their roles.Whoever was the creative director for this film should be fired. This film was not even worthy of one star.
I am not a "player hater". I truly appreciate the Queen for her many talents and abiolities and only wish her the best. However, I made a committment to myself that I would tell anyone who would listen, how I honestly felt about this movie. Was this review helpful?
