It's time we had a filmaker address this topic.. way past time, really. The cast is all outstanding. Julie Christie , of course is wonderful and very brave in her heartbreaking portrayal of Fiona. I didn't know the actor who played her husband, but was quite astonished when his scenes were every bit as good as Miss Christies, even stole the whole movie a bit, I think. My only critique is with the director, who seems to get stuck on the last part of the movie, when Alzheimers patients do progress downward. I have worked with people who have this terrible disease for many years, real families are much more accepting and understanding than this director has decided Fiona's husband should be. I did like the character of the nurse, who sort of stands in the wings till he needs an explanation of what is happening, and gives it to him, sometimes too bluntly. The facility where all this takes place is also pretty true to life. This film is really a must see for all babyboomers and prople who deal with Alzheimers. Was this review helpful? My father had ahlzeihmers and she really got so many of the little mannerisms down!
I went to the friday showing of this movie at 10:30 in the morning and the theater was full of a sea of gray hair. Everyone was laughing and crying! I thought to myself that probably 90% of those there were probably going through something similar to the movie. It was wonderful to see a movie done with such honesty and beautifully put together! I loved the way the flashbacks worked and sometimes the flash forwards! What a masterpiece! Some really talented people must have put this together! Was this review helpful?
