As for the DVDs, buy them! All three Seasons. I watched every seasons entire disk set, all the extras and episodes with commentaries a second time in one sitting. This show is that good! The gag reels are hysterical and the featurettes will make you pee on yourself so wear protective clothing. As for the show, FOX killed this amazing show. No advertising, bouncing the time slot, cutting the seasons short, airing them opposite other networks powerhouses -including Monday Night Football- then claiming the ratings were poor. Well, duh. I dont have to be a network exec to see that one coming. I was going to buy Showtime just to watch this show, and then Mr. H killed that citing it would be too hard to write, produce and keep up the quality on a new network. Shame on FOX, MR. H and the blithering idiots with Neilson boxes in this country. This show was a breath of fresh air among cookie-cutter sitcoms, mind numbing reality shows and overdone lawmedicalforensics shows. How many Law Order and CSI spin-offs or clones are they going to make? I hated the originals! Reality shows lower your IQ by two points with each episode, and very few sitcoms are truly funny or original anymore. This was one of the few. The writing, direction, production, acting, and every aspect down to the music and camerawork were all top notch. This show was destined to be another Cheers, a show that had poor ratings during its first seasons then went on to become one of the longest running hits of all times. It makes me want to cry that such a truly genius show wont continue. I pray DVD sales will force FOX or Mr. H to reconsider, and if there is a God, he will bring this show back from the dead.

The fact that this show was cancelled typifies American pop culture. The shows jokes require a nimble mind that craves more than the formulaic sit com that has been in existance since Lucy whined for the three-hundredth time. I find it discouraging that shows like this cannot survive in the face of the tired format of reality TV and the uninspired drama that we choke down week after week. To answer my own question, this show is not funny to the mindless drones who dont get the concept of innovation, those who are uncomfortable or even threatened by something new. It is unfortunate for those of us with the cerebral capacity to understand new and interesting ways of delivering humor that the majority of America is that mindless reality TV show participant who just wants to hear the next red-neck joke. it is even more unfortunate that the masses are the ones that drive the advertising decisions and therefore the programming decisions of all networks - especially FOX.

Having lived for 43 years now, Ive had my chance to watch more than a few television programs. None have made me laugh harder than this show. I bought TIVO for this show so I could watch it over and over, and rewind it so I can see the jokes I missed. I still watch the shows and still see things I missed. This show was a comedic gem and it will be sorely missed. Still in my heart, I hope some way, some day, I will be graced with Arrested Development again. Its all up to Mitch....PLEASE Mitch, bring it back!! If youve never seen the show, buy the DVDs and you too will have a lifetime sentence of laughter, for being Arrested!

This is an absolutely amazing show. No live-action comedy series has made me laugh so hard. Each season was better than the last. I will sorely miss it.

Auburne is exactly the kind of individual that chuck was describing, a mindless drone that keeps shows like friends, and will and grace on the air. Heaven forbid a show with intelligent dialogue is broadcast to Americans. Evidently, jokes that are funny and acting that mirrors reality is undesirable. Unfortunately the ratio of chucks to auburnes is too low for a show like this to stay on network television. There was speculation once that Showtime would pick up this brilliant comedy. Alas arrested development is no more. People with the intellect of auburne are the cause for social programs like welfare and unemployment, and special education. There is no concept that auburne can illuminate to anyone, in a perfect world an iq test would be required to use the internet. Halfwits are an overwhelming majority it would seem.

Arrested Development is, by far, the greatest television show that has ever been produced in the history of all mankind. The fact that it is being removed from the airwaves due to low ratings is a reflection of the sad state of the intelligence of the average American television viewer. The subtleties of the dialogue were unmatched, the wry humor was uncanny and the comic acting superb. One can only wonder what banal pile of trivial sitcom feces will take its place. Whatever it is, I m sure that the American public will embrace it in their collective journey to become the complacent dumb-downed second-rate world citizens in which they have cast their own fates.

This show always makes me feel as if my family is normal and I love them for that. Plus, the comedic interactions between the characters is just amazing. When you watch it for the first time, you might need to watch a couple of shows before you get the funny, but its totally worth it as its the greatest show of this generation. I love you Bluths!!

This show is the smartest show Ive ever seen, right down to creating the websites they show during the show. It is incredibly funny no matter what, but to REALLY get the full view...I mean, the pause the tivo bc your laughing too hard and you dont want to miss anything view..watch the first two seasons before jumping into season 3. I promise its worth it. I have told countless people about it and not one person has come back and said 'its ok'. Everyone I know is hooked. Watch it, tell people about it, keep it on the air.

This is the best television show I have ever seen. Arrested development really makes me laugh. It was like discovering gold in a manure pit. Come on, don't let it go- all of us dysfunctional people need a show too.. The network would be fools to let this one go. Why not give it a chance to grow a bit more with the audience. Isn't it worth it to have a show that actually has talent?

Arrested Development is the kind of show that grows on you. You might watch it once and wonder what all the fuss is about. After 2 or 3 episodes you will be hooked. I watched the show religiously last season and just picked up the boxed DVD. I am amazed at how much I missed the first time around. The writing defies superlatives; combined with the cinema verite camera style, the talented actors nail their roles, making their character interactions intimate and believable. If I ran into Tony Hale (Buster Bluth) on the street, I swear I would be disappointed if he were not in a swimsuit and glasses avoiding all eye contact and squirming noticeably. Gob has to be the most daft and narcissistic spitball on TV, the antitchrist to Bateman's moral compass, Michael. The rest of the cast are equally entertaining. Ron Howard's narrative is reminiscent of "The Wonder Years" but in a much edgier way. The editing is sharp and has to be, with the occasional wandering timeline and vignettes that frequent each episode. A major coup d'etat, likely courtesy of Ron Howard is the guest appearance in several episodes of Henry Winkler as the family's incompetent lawyer. Watching the DVD episodes sequentially, you get a much better feel for the plots and character interactions, some very subtle, others not so, as well as an appreciation for the early season foreshadowed revelation of George's "light treason" near the end of the first season. No commercials, and no one week (or more) wait between episodes does wonders for continuity. Did I mention the series is hilarious? Not in a Robin Williams on speed or Chevy Chase pratfall way, but in subtle and sublime character interactions and plot developments. You have to pay attention and listen. Watch for the nuances. If you have the opportunity, buy or borrow the boxed set and I guarantee before the second disc is in the player, you will understand why this show did so well at last years' Emmy Awards.

Some of the best humor in this show is also the most subtle. David cross, one of the funniest stand-up comedians of our time is fantstic, as is the rest of the cast. Their delivery of these lines makes them infinately funnier than they would be had anyone else been cast. GIVE THE SHOW A SHOT, you will not regret it. Renting the dvd's would be a great way to get the feel for the show, they're absolutely HILARIOUS!

Posted: 8/17/2004A review of Arrested Development [TV Series] by mchartz1
The characters, acting, writing, and well, whatever else is involved with making a good comedy, are all smart, sharp, and witty.

Therefore, it will probably get canncelled after this season. No one gets voted off anything or eats head lice. Women and men don't fight for the affection of the "one true love" they just met on national television. The jokes aren't always visual and/or sophomoric. So, enjoy this great show while you can, America, because it is probably doomed.
